Password Authentication Protocol (PAP)

Password Authentical Protocol (PAP) is a remote access authentication protocol in which simple user name and password pairs are transmitted in the clear.

Alternatives include Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) and Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP).
