The Cyber Security Enhancement Act of 2002 (CSEA) strengthened penalties for computer fraud and other unauthorized information access. In addition, CSEA permitted businesses to share customer data with the government, if the businesses in good faith perceived that the customer data suggested a threat to national security. Although CSEA was motivated by anti-terrorism concerns, privacy advocates have objected to the law as being overly broad and lacking in protections for the individual.
