The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is responsible for many networking standards. (Note, the abbreviation ISO is not an attempt to create an acronym in English or any other language. Rather, the abbreviation ISO is neutral with respect to various official languages used by the organization for its business.)
Perhaps the most noteworthy contribution of the ISO to networking is the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model.
Although specific OSI networking protocols are less prevalent than the alternatives promulgated through the IETF, the OSI model remains the most cited reference standard for analyzing all things networking.
