Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, an industry consortium. Several Bluetooth versions have been standardized in the IEEE 802.15 series. Bluetooth is designed to create short range personal area networks (PAN) or piconets. Bluetooth operates in the same unlicensed ISM band as WiFi, using 79 channels in the 2.4 GHz range. Bluetooth uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) to minimize interference.
Default behavior by Bluetooth devices is to form ad hoc network associations with any other Bluetooth devices within range. Bluetooth throughput is up to 3 Mbps and its range is up to 100 m.
