The Picnic Hill renovation is well underway. In mid-September 2025, work on Picnic Hill began, with grading — contouring the existing ground — shaping, and pouring concrete for the new ramps, staircases, landings, and the patio for the firepit. The deck next to the pool was framed; it is actually a very large deck that will serve as a sitting area, with furniture similar to the patios behind Buildings 3– 4 and behind Building 1, and it will also serve as an occasional platform for performances and movies.
Part of the hilltop has been contoured and leveled and artificial turf has been installed. A height difference at the back of the turf area and the adjacent ground was determined to be a safety hazard, so the contractor constructed a safety wall, which can be used for seating from either side.
A new staircase has been built where the hillside meets the pool deck — partly camouflaged by the bus stop and leaving the hillside intact. In addition to offering easier access primarily for residents in Buildings 1, 3, and 5, the staircase provides a second means of egress in case of an emergency.
Landscaping is underway but will not be completed until spring 2026. New picnic tables, new propane grills, the pergola, and handrails for the steps and ramps will be installed in the spring.
