On June 1, 2019, Montebello residents participated in the unveiling of a new historical marker commemorating Mount Eagle, the mansion which stood on Montebello grounds from 1790 to 1968.
Articles in the Montebello Times and other local newspapers described the ceremony. Here are photos of the event.
As a complement to the historical marker, a timeline was developed featuring key events in the history of the Mount Eagle property and the construction of Montebello.
For more information about the event and about the history of the property, see articles in the Montebello Times and Montebello Voice:

Nan Netherton's 92-page book Montebello at Mount Eagle was the source of much of the information we have about the Mount Eagle property. The book is now out of print but the entire text is reprinted here with permission of the copyright holder. Hard cover copies are available for review in the Fairfax County Library system.
During recent work on the grounds, a variety of artifacts have been found that date back before the construction of Montebello in the 1980's, including an old pitchfork blade and a variety of bottles, some of which can be dated to the 1930's. Visit the Museum of Pre-Montebello History.
