Molineaux Webb: 1874-1875 train lamps

Comment

Molineaux & Webb registered four train lamps designs in total. The company probably supplied the rail industry throughout its history. All the original founders of the company owned rail shares, it is said that they supplied the lamps on the original Liverpool to Manchester train line, and another source even claims that Thomas Webb "made his fortune" from supplying glass to train companies.

When Molineaux & Webb went bust in 1929, rail companies were still on their account books in the final few months of trading. These included four major operators - The Great Southern Railway Company of Ireland, The Great Western Railway, The London Midland and Scottish Railway, and The London and North Eastern Railway.

At the time the lamps below were registered, the only form of train lighting was by oil, with gas lamps becoming prominent in the 1880s and electric lighting starting in the 1890s. Therefore the following designs were little more than oil pots.
