Description

Comport or elevated dish

The design sketch is very similar to the comports of 1864, showing the item from the side and above. The stem and body of the comport are frosted. The rim of the base and the rim at the top of the comport use the same half oval rings as seen on several of the 1867 designs.

These shapes which are whole frosted, both the comport and the celery further down, seem to be a special type of usage of the registration where the frosted blank was sometimes used to add more elaborate designs and frosting patterns, several examples are now known. Similar behaviour is seen in cut pieces from this era.

And the real thing - this one is closer to a small tazza than a comport

Design also used on a bowl - this one with a diameter of 31 cms

Description

Inkstand and cover

Two pieces. The inkstand is a flat disc with a star style pattern taking up virtually all of it. The cover is not decorated and has a shallow pyramid top. The sketch suggests a stopper goes in the top section of the cover.

Description

Celery glass

This celery is a different shape to previous celeries of 1865 and 1866. Towards the top of the vase the celery narrows and it is topped with half ovoid shapes. The body is frosted with no decoration. The stem is concave and the base has a star pattern.

Also showing the distinctive top of the item

Most curiously there is an example of this design, with lozenge, having a pattern cut into it.
