Welcome to our Christmas meeting . Your Men o' War Tent Christmas card will be available to collect this evening. In addition to the usual raffle prize there will be some extra mystery prizes (at no extra cost, as usual everyone will have one raffle ticked issued on entry). Tonight's programme notes will also include a 'Just For Fun' quiz.
The Boys are reduced to busking with the hope of earning 50 cents a street. Maybe playing "In the Good Old Summertime" in the snow was their first mistake ...
Tonight we have the Spanish release of Below Zero with Laurel and Hardy delivering their lines in Spanish. There are extra shots not seen in the English language version and you may notice some cast changes. Don't worry if you cannot speak Spanish, there are English subtitles.
A little music on the car “radio” helps set the scene at the start of a perfect day with the boys off to work at a sawmill. Cue for trapped fingers, punctured water pipe, ripped trousers, a shave with a carpentry plane, Ollie’s quick trip through the ventilation shafts and their car sawn in half. At least the radio is still working.
SONS OF THE DESERT
At a meeting of their fraternal lodge the Boys join in the solemn oath and pledge to attend the Chicago convention. Their only obstacle is their wives who have planned a trip to the mountains. Ollie feigns illness and has Stan bring in a doctor to prescribe a recuperative sea voyage to Honolulu. Ollie insists the wives should go on the planned vacation to the mountains so they leave believing the husbands are on the sea trip for Ollie’s health. The Boys have a great time in Chicago even cavorting in front of the newsreel cameras during the Sons’ parade. But disaster strikes when the ship they are supposed to be returning on from Honolulu sinks and then their wives see that Chicago newsreel ….
The cost of the evening is £3 for members (£4 for non-members - including lifetime
membership to the Men o' War Tent) and £2 for under age 16 years.
The usual tea/coffee/soft drinks and biscuits will be provided for the break.
