Bill Prickett graduated from Albertville High School in 1959 and began a career working with his father in the radio business at WROS in Scottsboro. After earning his radio license in 1968, Bill went to work at WAVU in Albertville as a salesman and announcer for both gospel and country music radio programming. In 1968 Bill began a 20-year career as a broadcaster for Albertville High School football games. During this time, he worked with several notable football coaches, including hall of fame coach Vernon Wells. His color commentators included Tony Chiles, who is currently the PA announcer for the University of Alabama football and basketball games. The highlight of his broadcasting career came in 1986 when he and Jeff Allen called the 2A state championship football game won by the Crossville Lions. In 1967, Bill was recruited by hall of fame head basketball coach Shannon Sloan to be the scorekeeper for Albertville High School basketball games, a job that has now spanned over 57 years. He is most widely known for being the scorekeeper for the Marshall County Basketball Tournament at Snead State. He started in 1977, and he is still keeping that county tournament scorebook today. In his 47 years, he has only missed one day of the Marshall County Tournament, and that was due to the funeral of a close friend. When asked why he continues to keep the scorebook today, Bill said, I do it because I like it!”
