A Visit from an Apostle

Because we are in Africa, there are things available here that are not normally available back home.
The hides of interesting animals are available for leather workers. Mark had a scripture holder made. It showcases some animal hides on one side of the case, and on the other side is a map of Africa, made from Zebra hide. Not everyone has a scripture holder like this!
On the other hand, being in Africa has some other difficulties. One evening, Lynn was complaining that she felt like there were ants crawling on her arms in bed. When we woke up in the morning, as usual, she was right! Little tiny ants, looking for water. Mark got Knox Ant spray and blasted the flat 4 times before they decided to seek elsewhere. When they die, they look like dust when you sweep them up. It was nice to finally migrate out of the Guest Bedroom back to our room.
We made another trip up to Francistown to do flat inspections and potentially review another new flat. But alas, even though she knew we were coming and asked us to call on our arrival, the property manager was not to be found. Nevertheless we did get to enjoy a great Indian Tandouri restaurant and spend time with the two couples assigned to Francistown.
Because the Zimbabwe Temple construction and Open House are finished, the temple needs to be dedicated and Elder Gong of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles has been assigned that task. During the weeks before the dedication, he has been doing country visits. On Monday, he came to Gaborone, Botswana and held a Devotional. The Kanye District brought 7 buses and a total of 800 people! The chapel and cultural hall was overflowing. There was a tent set up outside for 300 people, which was also overflowing. The attendance count was 1151 people.
Unfortunately, Elder Gong was unable to obtain a meeting with the President of Botswana on Tuesday before he had to leave. Fortunately, that meant he was available to meet with the Missionaries in the Botswana/Namibia Mission. In attendance was also Elder Godoy and his wife. Elder Godoy spoke at the last General Conference giving a very memorable talk on the Saints in Africa called “Smiling Faces and Grateful Hearts”.
When they arrived at the Stake Center, the missionaries were arranged in the Cultural Hall for a group picture. Afterwards, Elder Gong and Godoy with their wives took time to shake hands with every missionary. What a kind gesture. And what a memorable event in the lives of our missionaries. Mark encouraged the missionaries to write up their experience in their journal so their great grandchildren could reminisce on the feelings captured by the missionaries as they were instructed at the feet of an Apostle.
A dozen missionaries from the farther areas of the mission were unable to attend in person. They attended via zoom from Ongwediva, and Windhoek Namibia and from Maun, Botswana. Elder Gong had each of them introduce themselves and state where they were from. He related to each of them the same as he had with us. They only missed the hand shake.
Mark also took pictures of each missionary shaking hands with Elder Gong, and they all had Grateful Hearts.
