1. Scheduled tours coming up!
a. GCU Cadaver Lab
i. Monday October 16th
ii. Van meet up in LS 201 at 12:15pm
b. TGEN
i. Friday December 1st
ii. Van meet up in LS 201 at 12:30pm (Normal Pre-med club meeting time)
iii. Will not have a scheduled pre-med meeting that day
c. Dr. Obermiller is working on scheduling a tour on a Friday at AT Still
d. Midwestern no longer schedules personal tours
2. Scheduled Speakers – Coming to Pre-Med club meetings
a. GCU pre-med degree transfer program advisor Ray Akers

3. Scheduled Trips
a. Need to decide on a weekend for Roseman
i. Date needs to be finalized to ask senate for travel funds
ii. Cannot be on the same weekend as any type of conference or major event going on in the area
b. San Bernardino is a GO
i. Need to ask senate for funds – Due October 3rd
4. GCU New Program
a. Program that is partnered directly with MCC Red Mountain Campus
b. Complete 4-year degree by taking classes at Red Mountain campus and receive credit for GCU

a. Dr. Galloway & Mr. Galloway – Both Pharmacists
i. Expressed importance of taking as many classes at community college as possible
ii. Discussed the variety of pharmacy career sectors such as retail, long-term care, compound, etc.
iii. Be a well-rounded individual and have other interests besides strictly science and medicine
iv. Do not just binge and purge the information you learn in school; understand the information and learn how to apply it to real life applications
v. Stay motivated and positive; surround yourself with people who express similar interests and are going to support your goals
vi. Never let school run your life. Fill your week with things you enjoy doing as well so you don’t burn out whether during your undergrad or grad school
vii. Most importantly, have fun along your journey!
b. Patrick Emmons – U of A Transfer advisor/Admissions counselor
i. U of A graduate schools do not favor students who received their undergraduate degree at U of A over students who graduated from ASU, GCU, etc.
ii. Admissions board looks for students who are well-rounded and stand out above others
iii. A good GPA is not the only criteria that matters for getting into grad school
iv. Must have hobbies and interests other than science and medicine
v. Community college transferring to U of A during undergraduate degree is easier than transferring to U of A from another 4-year college such as ASU
vi. U of A will take a maximum of 64 credits during a transfer
vii. For the PCAT, must take within 1 year of application date
viii. For MCAT, must take within 2 years of application date
ix. Other graduate school exams typically also fall within the 1-2 year range from application date
x. U of A Tucson campus crime rate is fairly low compared to other areas – Blue Light System in tact
xi. 45 Fraternities & Sororities on campus
xii. There is not a pre-med degree program at U of A. Can have any major, any degree, so long as the necessary pre-requisite classes are met.
xiii. U of A pre-health advisors help set you up with shadowing opportunities, build resume, go through mock interviews with you, and so much more!
xiv. Pre-med living communities are available at U of A in Tucson
xv. Transfer Scholarships available
o 36 credits need from a community college to qualify
o U of A Bridge Award – pre-determined track application, guaranteed admission to U of A, 2.5 GPA required. Receive $2000 scholarship per year for 2 years.
o Other scholarships available through U of A transfer scholarship programs:
a. $3000 per year for 2 years – 3.0 GPA
b. $5000 per year for 2 years- 3.5 GPA – Must be in Honor’s program
xvi. Community Colleges in the valley give two individuals every year the AZ Academic scholarships; full ride tuition at any in-state university
o Professors choose the students to be nominated
xvii. All undergraduate science degree programs are only at U of A Tucson campus
