Quick note here: If you do decide to use the mm fondant recipe, please make sure that you add about 1/2 cup of tyose powder to your dough. Remember what I told you before: this compound, "TYCOSE POWER," is what makes your dough stick together to hold its shape.
Coloring the Fondant
1. Pinch off a small ball of fondant from the large piece and color it light blue by adding two drops of blue food coloring
2. Cut another ball of fondant and keep it the color white.
3. Cut another ball of fondant and add two drop of black food coloring, (The color black is the harest color to make )
5. Make sure thay you knead the food coloring into the fondant, until the colors are evenly blended.
6. Use the rolling pin to roll out each piece of fondant. The larger piece should be rolled to a thickness of approximately 1/4 of an inch.
Create the Elephant’s Body
1.Using a large sized cut-out, cut one circle of gray fondant.
2.Roll the fondant in a ball, until you have a perfectly rounded and smooth surface.
3.Gently pinch one end of the ball, rotating it in your hands, so that the resulting shape resembles an egg.
4.Flatten the opposite end of the ball against your palm, or another flat surface, so that it can stand on its own, ensuring that the ball is evenly flattened is important, so that the elephant does not tip to one side.
Create the Elephant’s Legs The Back Legs
1.Using a small sized cut-out, cut out two circles of gray fondant.
2.Roll each circle into a ball.
3.Place a ball into the palm of your hand.
4.Roll one end of the ball, so that a cone shape is formed.
5.Flatten the other end of the leg, and pinch it to create the foot.
6.Depending on the size of your elephant, use either the #2 or #3 round tip, gently pressing the smaller end of the tip into the foot three times to create the elephant’s toenails.
7.Repeat the steps on the opposite leg.
The Front Legs
The same method used for creating the back legs will be used to create the front legs, with a few minor adjustments to the process.
1.Using a small sized cut-out, cut two circles of gray fondant.
2.Roll each of the circles into a ball.
3.Place one of the balls into the palm of your hand.
4.Roll one end of the ball, so that a cone shape is formed.
5.Continue rolling, so that the length of the front legs is as long as the elephant’s body.
6.Flatten the opposite end of the leg, pinching the end to create a foot.
7.Gently flatten the back side of the leg against a smooth surface.
8.Depending on the size of your elephant, use either the #2 or #3 round tip, gently pressing the smaller end of the tip into the foot three times to create the Elephant’s toenails.
9.Repeat the steps on the opposite leg. Attach the Legs to the Body Since the Elephant will be in the sitting position, his back legs will be positioned along the side of his body, while his front legs will be positioned down the center of the front of his body. To attach the legs to the Elephant’s body:
1.Dip the paint brush into the small bowl of water, and apply a light coat to the side of the leg that will be attached to the Elephant’s body.
2.Gently press the leg onto the body.
3.Repeat these steps with each leg.
Create the Elephant’s Head
1.Using a medium and large sized cut-out, cut one piece of gray fondant in each size.
2.Roll the two pieces together to form a loose ball
3.Begin extruding the trunk from the ball, continuously rolling the head, while pulling and rolling the trunk until you have achieved the desired length.
4.Continue to smooth and round out the head by rolling the back of the ball in the palm of your hand.
5.Once you have achieved the desired look for the elephant’s head, flatten the tip of the trunk against your finger and bend the trunk upward.
6.Use a toothpick to create two indents on the tip of the trunk.
Attach the Head to the Elephant’s Body
1.Cut a toothpick so that it does not stick through your entire figure.
2.Insert the toothpick into the bottom center of the head.
3.Use the toothpick to attach the head to the body by inserting the other end into the top center of the elephant’s body.
4.Gently press the head onto the body, ensuring that it is securely positioned.
Creating the Elephant’s Face The Eyes
1.To create the eyes, roll two balls of black fondant to the desired size for your elephant.
2.Use a toothpick to create two indents on the face for the eyes. After inserting the tip of the toothpick, roll it slightly to ensure that the indent is large enough for the eyes to fit.
3.Place the eyes into the indents, and press gently to secure them in place.
The Mouth
1.The mouth can be created using a straight edge blade to create a small line directly below the trunk. Or, you can use the edge of the small round cut-out to press a smile onto the elephant’s face.
Creating the Elephant’s Ears
1.Using a large round cut-out, cut one piece of gray fondant.
2.Use the small rolling pin to roll out the piece to the desired thickness for the ears.
3.Once the fondant is rolled thin, use the small round cut-out to cut two pieces.
Attach the Ears to the Head
1.Dip the paintbrush into the water, and apply a thin coat to the side of the ear that will be attached to the head.
2.Attach the ear to the back of the side of the elephant’s head, gently pressing to ensure that it is securely positioned.
3.Gently pinch the outer end of the side of the ear, so that it curves.
4.Repeat the steps on the other ear 3 & 4.
