How to Make A Purse Cake

How to make a purse like this

This is what I use:

9″ cake

Butter cream

Small piece of cardboard, for the bottom of the cake

Serrated knife

Rolled fondant (About 2 1/2 lb

Small rolling pin

Small sharp knife

Food color (I used green)

Large round piping tip

Ruler

Optional: Small gum paste flowers for extra decoration.

1. Take your round cake and cut off about 2″ of the “bottom”. Add a thin coat of butter cream and place the small piece of cardboard at the bottom.

2. Crumb coat the whole cake with butter cream. Then place the cake in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes for the butter cream to set.

Roll some white fondant out cover your whole cake

3. Use a large round piping tip to cut out 2 small circles. Flatten them slightly with your finger and set a side to dry a little before painting These will be placed in each side of purse handle

4. Cut out a long strip of paper to use as a template measure the complete part that goes around the top and sides (Use template to cut out fondant color green) Use the cake pan that you baked the cake in to shape the handle for the purse cake. Let it dry for 1 day.

6. Next cut a smaller strip of green fondant, 9″ long and 1 1/2″ wide this strip should be placed coming from the middle top and reaching only midway center of front part of purse.

7. Place the cake on the cake board

Use a little butter cream to stick your purse to the cake board

8. Take the handle and carefully glue it on with a little water. Then glue on the two small balls on each side of the handle.

9. Finish your purse cake by adding a little flower as a brooch.
