Congratulations to Lee Davis who has been awarded the title of Candidate Master for his score at the European Club Cup in Vrnjacka Banja (Serbia). The highlight of his tournament was his victory with the black pieces in a Rook & Pawn endgame over Grandmaster Dejan Antic, who was the Serbian Champion in 2015.

In the second round of the Summer Cup open section, Malvern scored 2.5/4 and finished second on the night out of 5 teams. This performance, when added to the first-round scores, meant that Malvern finished second overall behind Longbridge. Summary of 2023/2024.
Malvern had its most successful season for a long time. They won both the Championship League and the Challengers League without losing a match with their five juniors all making a considerable contribution and improving rapidly.
Eleven different players took part in the Championship where we achieved 9 wins and a draw and the title was confirmed with a game to spare. The Challengers side had 5 wins and 3 draws with the Junior players often doing very well and getting the side over the line.
Lee Davis and Ian Clarke both took part in the Bennett Cup and although Ian beat Joseph Friar of Kidderminster in the group stage, Joe went on to defeat Lee in the semi-final and Ian in the final.
Lee Davis, Brian Turner and Ian Clarke played for Worcestershire in the Minor Counties and James Allsopp represented the County in the U1650 competition.
Malvern were well represented at the closed Worcester County Championships congress with 4 players taking part. Lee Davis and Brian Turner finished with 3 out of 4 and Lee retained the title of Veteran Champion. Both players were just half a point behind joseph Friar of Kidderminster. James Allsopp and Joshua Clarke both scored 2 out of 4 with James winning the Junior title.
The Club Championship was won by Friedrich Quigley with 5.5/7 with Matthew Jordan and Lee Davis both scoring 5.
In correspondence chess, the Malvern and Worcester Dragons finished 6th out of 8 with 5 points from 16 games.
