Parasitism is a symbiotic relationship where a parasite benefits by harming a host. For example, a flea is a parasite of dogs. The flea gains nutrients to the dog's detriment. Parasites do not usually kill their hosts, because without a host, the parasite would die.
This image shows parasitism between a mosquito and a human. In this relationship the mosquito feeds on the humans blood. The mosquito does that to get food.
