Human beings are chordates, and like all chordates they are vertebrates. They are members of the class mammalia and have a skeleton made of true bone.
Health and nutrition play a role in bone density because bones store calcium and other minerals for your body; therefore it is important to eat well and exercise in order to accumulate healthy amounts of calcium and minerals. Calcium is necessary for efficient muscle contraction and if you do not have a healthy supply of calcium in your diet, your body will borrow it from your bones causing low bone density.
