Lysosome

The lysosomes contain enzymes that breakdown lipids, proteins and carbohydrates for the cell to use. It acts like a garbage disposal for the cell. This organelle is predominantly found in animal cells. They protect a cell by attacking incoming bacteria or viruses. They also break down old cell parts. Lysosomes are small sac-like structures surrounded by a single membrane and containing strong digestive enzymes which when released can break down worn out organelles or food. The lysosome is also known as a suicide sac.
