I had the chance to watch a bunch of a bunch of games last Sunday and for the most part I was pleased with what I saw. Of course there were a few exceptions. In the U13 and older games I watched, I was pleased with the eye contact and communication between the referees. Foul recognition was good which kept the games under control. The issues I saw were all with the U12 and younger matches using only one referee. If you want to see someone who does a great job of officiating a futsal match, I would advise you to watch either Josephine and/or Matthew who both did an outstanding job last Sunday. They both moved around the pitch while staying out of the way of play and communicated clearly with the players throughout the match. Unfortunately I got to witness the exact opposite as well. I got to witness one referee stand at the halfway line for over a minute while play bounced around to all four corners of the field. The thing that really got under my skin was when I saw multiple referees not in uniform. Everyone by now should have at least 2 of the new USSF shirts, a black pair of shorts as well as referee socks with 2 white stripes. There is no reason why anyone should be wearing pants and/or wearing an under shirt that extends beyond the sleeve of their jersey. Let me make this very clear. Anyone who does not dress in the proper uniform will no longer receive any assignments for the remainder of this season and perhaps in future seasons as well.
