To all the mentors, a big thank you for the honest feedback and the help with assisting the new referees. The most widely heard criticism, which is the case for most new futsal referees, is that the new referees were not calling the game tight enough. A lot of the hand stuff we wouldn't even consider outdoors is an accumulated foul in Futsal. Please remember that other than normal contact during the run of play, Futsal is a minimal contact sport. Contact with the hands to an opponent is ALWAYS a foul (with the exception of a goalkeeper making a save but that's fairly obvious). We are coming into week 3, the substitution rule should not be a problem at this point. Have the coaches help you out with this. Communicate that off before on. A step or two is trifling as long as the new player isn't interfering but anything else needs to be dealt with. Using common sense, the first time it happens (if the ball is in play) stop and award an indirect free kick and let everyone know what happened so it does not happen again. If it does, especially on mass substitutions, figure out who is getting the card. If a coach is doing mass substitutions blatantly after a warning ask the coach who should get the yellow card and have to sit out for 5 minutes. Again, use common sense based on age group.
Last two things, make sure your score sheets are readable and most importantly GET THE GAME SCORES CORRECT! If I find the same referee(s) are not verifying the correct scores I will lower that person's game rate and upon further repetition wish them all the best on their other endeavors. It's already happened once and I do not want it to happen again if at all possible.
