For those who worked LI Futsal games in 2017 and earned over $600, your 1099-misc forms will be in the mail later today. I realize after the fact that they should have been sent before the end of January and for that I apologize. If you would like a copy of it sooner, I can email it to you if so desired.
Last week was a tough pill to swallow for me and not because or negative feedback. For the first time in my recollection, SOMEONE MADE THE SAME MISTAKE THAT I COVERED IN MY EMAIL TO EVERYONE LAST WEEK AND THAT I PUT IN THE WEEKLY RECAP! It was confirmed by 3 different sources so I know for a fact it happened. I do not want to come off as a jerk but that really pissed me off to hear. (FYI. To put the "rookies" minds at ease, this was a "seasoned" referee who screwed up). There is a very good reason why the last thing I mention on the home page of the assigning site is:
"Those who do not follow all the procedures will find themselves no longer being asked to officiate L.I. Futsal."
I have already removed people from the referee pool in the past and trust me, I have not lost a moment of sleep over it. If I need to do so again, I certainly will regardless of how long you may have been a Futsal referee. I won't tell you. I'll just remove you from my email list. I don't need that kind of aggravation.
I can tolerate mistakes as long as they are not catastrophic in nature. We all make them and are supposed to learn from them. Not learning from them is worse than incompetent, it is just lazy. If I talk about something, it's because I think it's important to all. If you think you made a mistake, ask someone. Everyone has multiple outlets of asking for advice or help. Anyone can freely ask a question on the message board on the assigning site without fear or judgement. The referee roster is available for download so if you want to text, call or email someone privately you can always do that as well. Of course there is always the assigning site itself. All the rules and procedures are always there. If in doubt, ask. If you're 99% sure, ask.
Hopefully by now all have received their January check. If you haven't by 2/14, shoot me an email saying so. All goal help will be included in the end of season check WHICH I ALSO STATED IN LAST WEEKS EMAIL. If you helped out putting the goals away and haven't already sent me an email saying where and when so I can pay you, you have until 2/14 to do so. After that, don't bother. IF John Branca needs referee assistance putting goals away at a venue, I will contact you directly by text or email asking for you to put the goals away. Everyone who ends the day is still asked to take a picture and send it via text and/or email to both myself and to John. If you have any questions or concerns about that, ask.
