July 7, 2015 INVADER ZIM RETURNS Oni Press Releases The Nickelodeon Network Title, Written By Jhonen Vasquez, This July Back in 2001, Jhonen Vasquez introduced Invader Zim- a dark yet funny animated series on Nickelodeon. The story revolves around Zim, an alien bent on conquering Earth at the behest of his Irken Leaders (who actually sent him there to stop him from disrupting their plans on expanding their empire- Zim's actually a naïve megalomaniac goofball). On Earth, he and his robotic sidekick Gir (a real piece of work itself), disguise themselves as a grade school boy and his pet dog. His plans for world domination are constantly foiled by his paranoid next door kid neighbor, Dib. The comic will be picking up right where the cartoon left off. Expect to see it hit the shelves on July 8. June 6, 2015 REVAMPS... REVAMPS, EVERYWHERE Marvel And DC Major Storyline Restarts Begin This Month The two major publishers of comics in North America, DC and Marvel, have both revamped their Multiverses. DC just finished up with their major crossover story line titled Convergence. Marvel is in the process right now with their shake up, Secret Wars. Many of the staple story lines of these two publishers are now being started over. Justice League of America is coming in as a new story line with issue #1 this week, along with a variety of different variant covers, including The Joker covers, which we talked about in a previous post (see the article below). Long time comic book heroes that haven't been getting much love as of late are getting their own story lines, such as DC's Black Canary and Marvel's Runaways. New characters are also being introduced like Midnighter from DC and Thors (plural) from Marvel. If you're the kind of person that would like to read comics but are afraid that you might not get the story unless you start from the beginning, now's the time. Come on in, I'm sure there's something here that will interest you. June 11, 2015 COMICS AND MANGA- PULL SERVICE Get Your Favorite Titles When They Arrive Hundreds of issues of comics, manga and graphic novels arrive at our shop every Wednesday. Once sorted through and inventoried, our subscribers get the issues they've ordered. What's left over gets put on the shelves for general purchase. Once on the shelves, all our titles are sold on a first come, first served basis. If you come in, and we're out, there's no guarantee I can get more in. It's just how this particular market works. That's where our Pull Service comes in. Let us know what issues you would like to get on a regular basis, and we'll add you to the Pull Service list. It's as easy as giving us your name, your phone number and a list of the titles you want held. All you have to do after that is check in every now and then and see what's in your hold box. Simple, right? Stop in or get in contact with us anytime, and we'll get you set up. June 1, 2015 WHY SO SERIOUS? DC Gives A Makeover To Their Varied Titles With Alternate Art "Joker" Covers DC has been making some remarkable Alt Art Covers for their lines lately. Not too long ago, Harley Quinn covers were coming in (and selling out). Then came the Movie Poster Covers- Sinestro in Westworld. Justice League Dark as Beetlejuice. Detective Comics? Yup, that'd be The Matrix. Starting this month, a whole new line of DC Comics Alt Covers are coming in, and this time, it's ::insert campy Batman '66 dramatic pause here:: The Joker. Along with the regular cover, we'll be getting in a limited supply of Joker covers as well. This week, the covers will be on the Action Comics line, as well as Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Justice League, and Lobo (yes, he's back). As the month of June rolls along, more covers will be coming in. If you'd like to get your copy, stop by this Wednesday. I usually have everything sorted out and subscribers issues pulled by 4:00 PM. Would you like to be a subscriber? Just let us know, and we'll hook you up. May 25, 2015 RULE NUMBER 1, GET FIGHT CLUB 2- Chuck Palahnuik Writes Sequel To His Cult Classic In Comic Form: Since it was announced at last year's Comicon, a highly anticipated release (by yours truly anyway), Fight Club 2, arrives this week. This comic book was written by author Chuck Palahniuk, and is a sequel to his cult classic novel, Fight Club. If you've not read the book, you may remember the movie of the same name. This time, our narrator is living the suburban life; Married, with a kid, and on meds. He's going through the usual mid-life crisis routine, when his wife, Marla-yes, that Marla, decides to spice things up a bit. She tampers with Cornelius' medication (which is now his "Official" name; never before divulged in either the novel nor the movie), bringing Tyler Durden roaring back. Fight Club 2 releases this Wednesday. We have 2 covers coming in- Main and the Stewart variant cover. Come in and get your copy, or better still, sign up for our pull service and get all 10 issues of this limited run series as they release. May 16, 2015 JUST IN TIME FOR TOWEL DAY Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency Hits The Comic Shelves This Wednesday Fans of the late Douglas Adams will have a real treat this week, as one of his characters has made it to the comic world. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is based on the books of the same name. If you're familiar with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, also by Douglas Adams, then you know what kind of zany mind Mr. Adams had. In the original novel of the same name, Dead cats, robotic monks, and a whodunit were all wrapped up into a nice little Douglas Adams bow; at least in my opinion. This comic book release is a new story line. It's a whole new story, in a whole new country (San Diego, USA) and it's on a whole new case. I for one am looking forward to this. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is just one of many titles that come in this and every Wednesday. If you are interested in any titles, I would suggest signing up for our pull service so you don't miss any issues. We'll see you here December 18, 2014 The Great Comic Recession of December, 2014 Okay, this isn't a real thing, but it was here at Leisure Time Games, for a very brief moment. Essentially, there was a minor comedy of errors going on. Orders were sent through their proper channels, but somewhere in the chain someone forgot to hit enter. Unbeknownst to me, my order for December (You know, the busiest month of the year for retailers?) was not logged in. This little SNAFU happened in October. Queue December My order for the first week of December arrives, and it's got nothing in it. Not "Nothing" nothing, but very little of what I was expecting. A few games of e-mail tag later, I find out I'm a victim of Human Error. Now, to make a long story longer, a bit of scrambling on their part, along with one of their reps (mine to be precise) leaving the company to pursue some other wacky adventure right in the middle of all this going on, along with the usual 2 week lead time for orders, everything is just about back to "Normal". TL;DR: Some of your comic orders were late this month. Look at the bright side though- I got to write about something out of the ordinary. That's a bonus right there. December 11, 2014 CENCON IV, Bring Comics To Trade, Get In Free* I'm trying to work on ways to get the comic community here more involved with Leisure Time Games. After all, I don't just sell you stuff, I try to build a relationships, and not just between myself and the customers, but between my customers as well. My goal is to try to get folks to know and interact with one another to help accentuate your comic reading pleasure. It's easy with games. Comics? Not so much. Still, I'm gonna continue to do what I can to include this genre into the events we host here at Leisure Time Games. So here's what I'm gonna do this time through. If you bring in a box of comics with you to CENCON IV that you'd like to trade, I'll let you enter CENCON IV for free*. Come to CENCON IV, meet other comic enthusiasts, play some board and card games, and have a good 'ol time. How's that sound? By the way, if any of you, my gentle readers, have any ideas you'd like to share with me on how to expand on our events to include more comics and comic related activities, let me know. I may try to get it going for our next event. Whether it be at one of our Leisure Time Games Days, Free Comic Book Day, Halloween Horrorfest, or some other happening, I want to get people involved. See you at CENCON IV *Additional Fee Events Some games and events have a cost listed in their description. If a game or event you are interested in is labeled as such, the cost listed is to get into that particular game or event, as well as any other game or event for that day which does not carry an additional listed cost. If you wish to enter more than one game or event that has an additional fee, those costs are cumulative. However, entering into more than one game or event with an additional fee will get you into all 3 days of the CENCON weekend and any games or events that don’t have additional costs associated. If you wish to enter into the other days of CENCON, but are only entering 1 game or event that has an additional fee, then add $5.00 to the entry fee, and you’ll get in for all 3 days. If you are hosting a game, this additional $5.00 is waived. Hosting a game will not discount or waive a fee of an event has an additional cost unless you hosting in an official capacity, and are not eligible for prize support. November 23, 2014 Subscriptions? Yeah We Do That A couple of years ago, we started selling comics here at Leisure Time Games. Since then, we've managed to create a nice little Comics Community. One of the tools I use to know what to order, because believe me there are literally thousands of titles to choose from, is a Pull List. Essentially, if you are interested in getting a certain title or twenty, come on in and let me know. I‘ll take down: 1. Your name 2. Your phone number 3. Your list of comics you want to get every month Viola! Easy as that. When your comics arrive, we put them in our Comics Hold Box, and you can come get them at your earliest reasonable convenience. I usually don’t call you unless either you’re new and your first comics have arrived, or it looks like it’s been awhile since you’ve been in. In that case, I give you “The Naughty Call.” Please, don’t be that guy. New comics arrive every Wednesday. I usually have everyone’s stuff sorted out and ready for pick up by 4:00 PM. Come on in, let’s get you set up
