RETURN THANKS. MRS I. Avery wishes to thank all kind relatives and friends for telegrams, letters and cards and personal expressions of sympathy in the sad loss of her only son Keith, who died serving his country. THE KANGAROO ISLAND COURIER. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 19th., 1943.

WAR CASUALITIES

This week we regret to have to announce the death of three gallant young men.— Keith Avery, died of illness) ; Frank May, (killed in action) ; Arnold (Mick) Boxer, (died of illness.) To the relatives of these young men we extend on behalf of the residents of the District, our sincere sympathy. Flt/Sgt. Keith Avery was not known to many of us but his mother has lived amongst us for a considerable time....

The Kangaroo Island Courier published regular bulletins of those who served and died under "Honor Roll". Avery K continued to appear as having "died in service" from Nov 1943 until the last one published in July 1945 : HONOR ROLL. (1945, July 20). The Kangaroo Island Courier (Kingscote, SA : 1907 - 1951), p. 4. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article191418617

There is obviously inconsistency here.

The only son of Inez was Keith Leonard AVERY, yet it is apparent that he did NOT die in the war.

Also the newspaper notice "War Casualties" refers to him as Flt/Sgt, although official war records show that he served in 2nd 43 Batt.

There is a K L Avery in the Sands and Mac for 1970, living in Sellicks Beach. And another in Elizabeth North.

News (Adelaide, SA : 1923 - 1954), Tuesday 7 May 1929, page 10

WOMAN COMMITS BIGAMY Released Under Bond Inez Avery (aged 28 years), cook, of Wil mington, was charged before Mr. Justice Angas Parsons with having on August 4, 1921, married William Avery, and on Oc tober 16, 1926, at Norwood, .while her husband was still alive, unlawfully married Terence Joseph O'Neill. She pleaded guilty, and was represented by Mr. J. W. Nelligan, who said that accused was married when she was 19 years of age to a man 43 years of age, and almost immediately she was subjected to gross acts of cruelty. There were two children of the union: a boy and a girl. Finally she left home, taking the girl with her. She went North, and worked as a cook on a station. Subsequently she went as housekeeper to O'Neill. She was induced to marry O'Neill, and believed that, having married under age without the consent of her parents, her first marriage was not binding. She was penitent. His Honor said that in such cases the woman might be more sinned against than sinning. Accused had done a serious wrong. He would release her on her own bond of £25 to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. WOMAN COMMITS BIGAMY (1929, May 7).
