USDA Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program
Aloha Parents/Guardians,
We are happy to announce that Ka’a’awa Elementary School is again a recipient
of the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant. This is a program to encourage students to enjoy the great taste and health benefits of eating plenty of fruits and veggies each day as part of a lower-fat, higher-fiber eating style.
The goal of the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program is to:
food opportunities and education
and future health
Snacks will be disbursed twice a week just prior to afternoon recess. Fun and informative facts about each produce will be shared with the students at morning assembly on those days. Children will be encouraged to try the fruit or vegetable snack, but they may choose to not participate if they do not like or cannot eat the snack offered. You can also support your child’s efforts to increase his/her fruit and veggie consumption in many ways throughout the year. For example:
a new fruit or veggie to try. This could be a fresh, frozen, or dried item.
are requested for parties or special events.
he or she will be more likely to eat them.
The snack program will begin on Thursday, November 9 and will be provided
generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week. The snacks provided will
be posted on the school’s website prior to the serving week. If you have any
questions, please contact me at 305-6660.
Good health to you!
