Dumplings

My first memory of dumplings was at Grandma Hurst’s home (Nana). She made delicious chicken and dumplings that we love as a family!

Ingredients

3 T. shortening

1 ½ c. flour

2 tsp. baking powder

¾ tsp. salt

¾ c. milk

Cheese: Add 1/4 c. shredded sharp cheese to the dry ingredients

Herb: Add ½ tsp. herbs (sage, celery seed, dried thyme) to the dry ingredients.

Parsley: Add 3 T. snipped parsley or chives to the dry ingredients.

Preparation

Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto hot meat or vegetables in boiling stew. Cook uncovered 10 minutes. Cover and cook about 10 min. longer. 8-10 Dumplings
