There was a Cat, who resembled a Tiger and knew it, and ruled over his realm. But one day, there entered a Pen, and the Cat did not know what to do.

The Cat watched, thinking, and decided the Pen did not belong. He made up his mind, and he pounced.

The Pen said nothing, dormant on the Rug, and the Cat squinted at it, quizzical. The Pen continued to say nothing.

A Human appeared in the doorway, expressing both a smile and a frown, retrieving the Pen.

"Ukulele," said the Human, addressing the Cat. "No."

And the Cat, called Ukulele, leapt onto something soft and sat on it, contemplating. Something moved beneath the soft thing, and something else shouted.

"O my enemy," he said to the toes, "why do you wiggle at me? For I am the Cat who pounces on toes and waves his wild tail in the bedroom."

And Ukulele turned, and recognizing the strange creature who was tall, but kindness in his face, and Ukulele asked, "Are you my friend?" And the human knelt, extending a hand, and said, "Yes. Yes, you are my friend."

The Cat extended his paw, and the Cat and the Friend lived happily ever after.
