Title: The effective field theory description of cosmological large scale structures

An overview will be given of the application of effective field theory methods to the study of large scale inhomogeneities in the Universe, resulting in the theory of a viscous dark matter fluid coupled to gravity. Such theory has few phenomenological parameters that can be matched either by comparison with numerical simulation or fitted from observations. Effective field theory methods give new insight into understanding the large scale structure formation and have predictive power, reaching percent precision up to the relative short scale k of about 0.24 h/Mpc.
