Virtual Talks

Virtual Talks:

We are very excited to present Virtual Talks for the Herefordshire Astronomical Society!

We are using the Zoom videoconferencing app - take a look here at the Zoom website.

Zoom offers a range of products for different sorts of organisation and levels of usage. For us, we are just using the free product plan - "Zoom Free". You do not need to pay for the app or pay to join a conference.

Instructions for downloading and launching Zoom:

You can attend a Zoom meeting without downloading any software, if you wish, by signing in through your web browser (eg Chrome) and following the on-line instructions. Simply insert the Meeting ID (and Password, if supplied) where requested.

However, to enjoy the full benefits we recommend downloading the client software from Zoom's website here: Zoom Client for Meetings.

You can download it when you first join a meeting but to familiarise yourself with the features and play with it before the meeting we recommend downloading in advance.

After downloading, run the executable file ('Zoominstaller .exe') from your Downloads file (default destination) or wherever you have downloaded it to. It will take just a few seconds to unpack and install. It should save an icon to your desktop, but to be sure, if you have Windows, while running Zoom, 'pin' the icon to your taskbar (mouse right-click) for easy future access.

And that's all there is to it! If you need help or advice please let Chris or Martin know and we will help as best we can - contact details here.

If you are interested and want to understand a bit more about how Zoom works, there's a good website here that's got plenty of descriptions and videos showing Zoom in action.
