You may send the project anytime during the remainder of the term before the due date. However there will be no re-submittions allowed so please take your time to complete the project. If you have any questions, contact myself or Katelin and will be glad to assist. The term project is OPTIONAL but will help in earning points towards getting a quill in this class.
Overview:
This term project will test your imagination beyond the normal limits. The term project is to take a local article from the crime section and decode the evidence to prove that it was in fact a dark wizard who created the crime and not a muggle. The article can be from an online source or newspaper, but it has to at least be from your country. When we say decode the evidence we mean take part of the evidence or facts in the crime and twist it until it seems like a dark wizard did it. For example, if the article says there was no sign of forced entry you can say that the wizard used a spell to unlock the doors and gain access, or if a witness doesn't remember the culprit's face a memory charm could have been placed on them. Your imagination is really the limit of what you do. The project will consist of four different sections: Introduction, Evidence, Description and Critical Thinking.
Introduction:
In the introduction you must tell us about your article, where you found out, how old it is, the title, and what happened. This section is most imporant, it is like analyzing an article a summary of what it is about. Also in this section you must include the article link, copy, with your submittion that is your source and proof of where you got it from.
Evidence:
The evidence is a large chunk of your overall grade on this project. In this section you need to include at least three different ways how the article is really talking about a dark wizard. Here are a couple of examples that were used in the overview. For example, if the article says there was no sign of forced entry you can say that the wizard used a spell to unlock the doors and gain access, or if a witness doesn’t remember the culprit’s face a memory charm could have been placed on them. The more detail you include in the evidence sections the better your grade will be.
Description:
This is the most important part of the project as you can see it is worth the most points. In this part you must give us a detailed description of the evidence and twist it till it seems like it was done by a dark wizard. This is where your creativity comes in most and your ability to take something out of ordinary and make in to something that would happen in the magic world of Harry Potter. As with the examples given at the top, look back in your lessons and other HOL classes and sources from online, of spells, dark magic and how a dark wizard uses it when they are causing crimes. Rowling has given us a whole reference and her series is based on strictly that. Make sure you stick to your evidence and source, if you have not given us the evidence than do not put it in the description.
Crtical Thinking:
In this last section of your project, you will use everything you have learned in this class so far, and what you and tell us how you would have handled the situation if you were assigned to the case as an Auror. How would you catch the dark wizard? what spells would you use? if the article says how it was handled twist it and tell us how you would have handled it differently? In this part you can be more flexible and include anything else you feel is important pertaining your article, as this is only the level one training, your skills and critical thinking will be developed by exploring on a practical level how at this point in your training you would handle this situation as an auror.
Grading:
The project will be graded based on how detailed the four different sections of your project are and your creativity.
