Lesson Five

Dark Objects and Horcuxses

Welcome to your first lesson in level two. You have survived the first part of the training programme, now we are about to embark on a more adventurous and practical side of training. In this level you will be able to apply your practical skills, and show me what you learned and know already. The first lesson will begin with looking at Dark Objects and Horcruxses.

Types of Dark Objects

There are many types of Dark Objects around, most of them are bewitched in some way by a dark wizard. Sometimes we find dark obejects in old houses, and other areas such as shops. One place I am sure most remember is Knockturn alley where death eaters have been known to lurk in possession of objects to bewitch. In this lesson we are only going to cover the most common and known objects that you will have to deal with as an Auror.

Harry holding Tom Marrvolo's diary.

Books are often used as dark objects, they are bewitched and anyone who reads it can be seriously hurt, possessed or even killed with pro long use. Dark Wizards have often used books to lure and gain control of their victims. One example of a book is the Sonnets of Sorcerer and one we all know of is Tom Riddle's diary.Cursed books are also one of the hardest objects to recognize because they appear as normal books.

A bewitched necklace.

Necklaces are also used for bewitching, they are far more dangerous because they can be bewitched more than books which can cause instant death if touched by someone. Borgin and Bures in Knockturn alley sells alot of these necklaces. They have also been known to show up in Muggle Stores and given as presents and used to attack their victim. Most bewitched necklaces are found in opal.

Dark Wizards have been know to use objects as there way 0f gaining control and power over there victims to rend them to the state that they are not able to function on there own. However these objects are not used often partly due to there nature, and using them successfully. We will learn more about the nature of why wizards use dark objects when we look at the criminal mind later on in the class.

Recognizing Dark Objects!

Recognizing these objects as dark is an important and vital task for Aurors when defeating Dark Wizards, Aurors are trained in noticing changes, and often out of ordinary behavior and or appearance of objects that have been bewitched.

As an Auror it is your job to recognize these objects before they get in to someone's hands and cause harm. An Auror must always be prepared to deal with and recognize objects even if there are not involved in the cases they are investigating. You must always be prepared to deal with them. When you are out in the field you must always.

1) Learn and gin as much possible knowledge about the Wizard involved and where it takes place and who is involved.

2) Observe and scan the area before touching anything, remember that almost always you will be assigned cases where a Wizard has attempted an attack or has already cause damage.

3) Look for any out of the ordinary objects and compare to the report given by the Auror Office on your case, check to make sure nothing has been moved or changed which can help in recognizing bewitched objects.

4) Once you made your investigation and report on the area, you than will bring the evidence to the headquarters for forensics. We will be getting into forensics and lab work later on in the class.

Remember that if it looks our of the ordinary or too ordinary than it is most likely bewitched.

Horcruxses

Horcruxses are darkest of all objects that a Witch or Wizard uses their soul so split it into more than one for the purpose of gaining immortality. It is one of the darkest forms of magic that goes against all laws of nature. They require a great deal of magic and even death to create one. In our history it has been known that the first Horcrux was created by Herpo the foul and Lord Voldermort was the first to create more than one.

Many Dark Wizards have attempted to create a Horocrux with little success, due to the level of magic needed and effects it can cause one. Inanimate objects and living organisms have been used to make Horcruxes. There is no limit number of how many times a soul can be divided however the more it is, the more the Wizard looses his humanity and becomes unstable.

Destroying Horcruxses

Destroying these objects is one of the most diffucult tasks any Auror or Wizard has had to endure, partly because they cannot be destroyed by any conventional means such as breaking, smashing and burning. Aurors will rarely be given the task to destroy these objects. When an Auror is given the job to destroy a Horcrux there first task is to gather information on the whereabouts of the WIzard how many Horcruxses they created, what there attempt was and where there hiding places are, and finally destroying the Object. Aurors are trained to deal with all means of magic and protection against the Dark Arts, although Horcruxses are yet one the hardest and rarest tasks anyone will have to take upon.

Here is a list of Lord Voldermort's Horcruxses and how they were destroyed.

Now on to your assignment!
