Church History
The first service for the Vietnamese Christian group of Newark was held on Sunday April 4, 1991 with about 30 members under the coordination of Rev Linh Nguyen and the Deacon Board of the Vietnamese CMA church of Oakland. After more than four months of regular weekly services, the leadership of the Vietnamese District has officially recognized and approved our application to form the Vietnamese CMA church of Newark on September 1, 1991. They also assigned Rev. Linh Nguyen to be the senior pastor and at the same time assigned interim preacher Dang Khuc to assist in the ministry.
By God's grace, after one year of regular services, Vietnamese District of the C&MA has approved application from both Oakland and Newark Vietnamese churches and assigned the pastoral function of the church to interim preacher Dang Khuc starting from October 3, 1992. The Newark Vietnamese Alliance Church (NVAC) started to operate independently ever since.
In July 1997, Pastor Dang Khuc was officially ordained during the annual Vietnamese District Conference in Seattle. The church has grown steadily with the caring and leading of rev. and mrs. Dang Khuc until the end of January 1998. Answering the God's call, Rev. and Mrs. Dang Khuc had to say goodbye to the Newark Church to accept the pastoral position at Westminster Vietnamese Church.
Thanks to the Lord for his arrangement, Pastor Hung Pham, the youth pastor for Newark church since 1995, stepped up and took on the role of pastoring the church since Sunday February 1, 1998. He was then ordained to be senior pastor in August 14, 1999.
From the first day of service, the following servants of the Lord had been serving Him in our church:
Rev. Linh Nguyen, Pastor: 4/14/1991 to 10/3/1992
Preacher Dang Khuc, Assistant: 4/14/1991 to 10/3/1992
Rev. Dang Khuc, Pastor: 10/3/1992 to 2/1/1998
Rev. Hung Pham, Assistant: 8/18/1995 to 2/1/1998
Rev. Hung Pham, Pastor: 2/1/1998 to 6/30/2002
Rev. John Huynh, Pastor: 7/1/2002 to 9/30/2016
Rev. Raymond Quan, Pastor: 10/1/2016 to present.
Thanks to our God, in the past years, our membership, attendance, finance, and organization had increase steadily. The church held regular group meeting for Men, Women, Youth, Christian Education, Prayer Meeting and Bible Study to train and equip God's children. Our church membership is approximately 100 people and weekly attendance average is about 60 in different age groups. With the desire to have our own facility for worshiping, the church has started a building fund in 1997 and growing the fund since.
Thanks to the Lord through the caring and nurturing provided to us by Rev. and Mrs. Linh Nguyen and Oakland Viet Church, The Newark church got its start. Also through the caring and leading of Rev. and Mrs. Dang Khuc, Rev. and Mrs. Hung Pham, Rev. and Mrs. Hung John Huynh, and now Rev. and Mrs. Raymond Quan, God’s church continues to grow beautifully.
We pray that our loving Father will continue to pour his blessing on his servants, the deacon staffs, and all his children in Newark church so we can bring God’s love to many people around us and leading each other to be good disciples of our Lord.
