1vs6.btl

During the 1971 Indo-Pak War, the Pakistani Air Force repeatedly raided Indian air fields using flights of bomb-laden Sabres. On this particular occasion on December 14, 4 Sabres were sent to bomb the air field at Srinagar, escorted by another 2 Sabres. As the Sabres commenced their bombing runs, two Indian Gnats rose to meet them. One Gnat, the wingman of the pair, piloted by Flight Officer Sekhon, engaged the attacking Sabres after they completed their bombing runs and got caught up in a classic low level dogfight. Four Sabres twisted and turned in response to the aggressive tactics and gunfire of the lone Gnat pilot. Soon the top cover Sabres got involved as well, and Flight Lieutenant Baigs finally downed the valiant Gnat. The fate of the Gnat leader is unknown, as he apparently disengaged from the fight early on.

As the Gnat is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the A-4E for the Gnat.

Amritsar.btl

Raid on the IAF radar station at Amritsar: 6 December, 1971

Two Pakistani F-104As attacked the radar station at Amristar. After they completed their attack runs, the F-104s turned and headed for home, only to be intercepted by IAF Gnats. One of the F-104s claimed to down one of the Gnats using an AIM-9B Sidewinder. However, Indian records indicate that all of the Gnats returned safely.

As the Gnat is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the A-4E for the Gnat. The radar station is represented by a building unit. The F-104A could not carry bombs, so the radar station must have been strafed by the raiding Satrfighters using cannon only. I have equipped the F-104s with bombs so that the AI will attack the target before heading for home.

Amritsa2.btl

Raid on the IAF radar station at Amritsar (take 2): 6 December, 1971

After the first attack on the radar station at Amristar (as depicted in Amritsar.btl), two more F-104As swooped in to attack. After they completed their attack runs, the F-104s turned and headed for home, only to encounter a flight of Indian Su-7s. The F-104s engaged the Su-7s, claiming to down one.

As the Su-7 is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the Su-17 for the Su-7. The radar station is represented by a building unit. The F-104A could not carry bombs, so the radar station must have been strafed by the raiding Satrfighters using cannon only. I have equipped the F-104s with bombs so that the AI will attack the target before heading for home.

F86vm21.btl

On December 17, 1971, two Pakistani F-86 Sabres were patrolling over the battle field when they were approached by two Indian MiG-21s. During the merge, the MiGs were not spotted by the Sabres, and the MiGs reversed and assumed a position high and behind the patrolling Sabres. As the MiGs dived on the Sabres, the Sabre pilots turned into the attacking MiGs. Flight Lieutenant Maqsood Amir managed to get his Sabre into a good firing position behind a MiG, and he downed it with 0.5 caliber gunfire. The other MiG made for home pursued by the other Sabre. That MiG escaped easily.

Gnatv104.btl

After the outbreak of war between India and Pakistan in 1971, each side raided the other repeatedly. On the 4th of December, a single Pakistani F-104A raided the home base of the No.2 Squadron at Amristar at 6:45 in the morning. A single Gnat was on patrol, and moved to intercept the F-104. On this particular occasion, the F-104 declined combat and sped back towards Pakistan.

As the Gnat is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the A-4E for the Gnat.

I have equipped the F-104 with a few bombs with which to attack Amristar.

M21vf104.btl

This scenario was adapted directly from Gamescience Corporation's "Mig Killers" by MS Kurtick and R Russo.

"The First Meeting Between the MiG-21 and the F-104

On December 12, 1971, a fight took place between two aircraft which had been long awaited by the flying world. In the middle '50s, two design teams with impeccable credentials designed lightweight air superiority aircraft with the emphasis on performance to the exclusion of all else. Ironically, these twins, the MiG-21 and the F-104 did not meet in the air for 15 years, despite the fact that aircraft of later design had made many contributions during those years. On this December day, Flight Lt's Soni and Saigal had just taken off on an airfield CAP when they spotted 2 F-104s of the Pakistani Air Force, low on the deck, making a run at their airfield. The Indian pilots made a hurried intercept and the fight took place--at times only inches above the ground. Flight Lt Soni finally managed to get one of the two Starfighters with his GSH23mm Rotary cannon to conclude the first ever encounter of these aircraft."

Mianwali.btl

Raid on Mianwali, 4 December 1971

On December 4, 1971, the Indian Air Force launched a raid on Mianwali Air base in Pakistan. Four Hawker Hunters were streaking in only to be intercepted by two CAPing F-86s. The Indians claimed to have destroyed one F-86, but all Pakistani aircraft returned safely. In fact, one Hunter was destroyed.

Since the Hunter is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the A-7A for the Hunter.

Migvmig.btl

This scenario was adapted directly from Avalon Hill's "Flight Leader" boardgame designed by Gary C. Morgan.

"MiG vs MiG: Bangladesh (East Pakistan), December 16, 1971

This was the second round of the undeclared war between India and Pakistan (this time over a revolt in East Pakistan, which became independent as Bangladesh as a result of the war) found some units on both sides flying MiGs (actually, the Pakistani aircraft were J-6s, Chinese copies of the MiG-19)."

Migvmig2.btl

From MIGVMIG.btl: "This scenario was adapted directly from Avalon Hill's "Flight Leader" boardgame designed by Gary C.

I have modified this scenario to include 4 of each type, as I believe this represents a more accurate portrayal of the actual encounter that occured on 14 December, 1971. By the way, one Indian MiG-21s were said to be destroyed in this fight.

Mirv104.btl

After the outbreak of war between India and Pakistan in 1971, each side raided the other repeatedly. On the 7th of December, two Pakistani Mirage IIIs raided the home base of No.2 Squadron at Amristar at 6:45. A pair of Gnats were on patrol and moved to intercept the Mirages. On this particular occasion, both Mirages declined combat and accelerated away towards Pakistan.

As the Gnat is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the A-4E for the Gnat.

I have equipped the Mirages with a few bombs with which to attack Amristar.

Mirvmig.btl

Mirage vs MiG, 8 December, 1971

On December 8, two MiG-21s from No.1 Squadron of the Indian Air Force escorted a flight of Su-7s on a strike mission into Pakistan. On their way, they were intercepted by two Pakistani Mirage III fighters. The MiGs turned into attackers, and started maneuvering for position. The Mirages decided to break for home, and as a result there were no losses during this encounter.

Since the Su-7 is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the Su-17 for the Su-7.

Nayachor.btl

On December 16, late in the 1971 India-Pakistan War, a flight of Indian Marut's on a strike mission were intercepted by three Pakistani F-6s. A Marut strike against Naya Chor on the 16th was intercepted by three PAF Shenyang F-6s. Two escorting MiG-21s tangled with the F-6 fighters, downing one. The Maruts continued on their mission and successfully attacked their target.

Since the HAL Marut is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the Orao 2 for the Marut.

Pathanko.btl

Raid on Pathankot, 9 December, 1971

Four Pakistani Mirage III's attacked Pathankot, India. As they egressed from the target area they were attacked by MiG-21s from No. 1 Squadron of the Indian Air Force that had scrambled to intercept. Two Atoll missiles were launched and one Mirage was damaged, but this plane managed to escape back into Pakistan and was claimed as a probable.

Peshawar.btl

Raid on Peshawar, 4 December, 1971

On the first day of the 1971 war, two Indian Hunters raided Peshawar air base in Pakistan. As the two Hunters approached Peshawar, they noticed three F-86 Sabres just in the air ahead. The two Hunters managed to get in a couple of strafing runs, destroying several F-86s (merely decoys, according to the Pakistanis). As the Hunters retreated back towards India, the three Sabres pursued. Two Sabres pursued the leader, and one Sabre the wingman. The leader managed to turn the tables on his pursuers, downing one of them with cannon fire. The wingman, while sustaining some damage, managed to escape successfully.

Risalewa.btl

Raid on Risalewala, morning December 4 1971

A number of Indian Su-7s from Squadron 222 were streaking in to attack the Pakistani air base at Risalewala, when they were intercepted by two F-6s. The Su-7s attempted to break off and escape at high speed, but one was downed by an AIM9B fired by one of the F-6s (which had been wired to fire the American missile).

As Su-7s are not modeled in FC2, I have substituted Su-17s.

Sakesar.btl

Raid on Sakesar Radar Station, 4 December 1971

On December 4, 1971, the Indian Air Force launched a raid on Sakesar Radar Station in Pakistan. A formation of Hawker Hunters(?) were approaching their target when they were intercepted by 2 Pakistani F-6. Two Hunters were destroyed in the encounter.

Since the Hunter is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the A-7A for the Hunter.

The radar station is represented by a building unit.

Sargo104.btl

Raid on Sargodha, 10:30hrs December 4 1971

The Indian Air Force launched a raid on the Pakistani air base at Sargodha, attacking with two elements of Su-7s, one following the other in. As the second wave arrived, two Pakistani F-104s were just lifitng off. One F-104 managed to launch an AIM-9B at the fleeing Su-7s, damaging it. This aircraft, however, managed to land safely back it's home base.

As Su-7s are not modeled in FC2, I have substituted Su-17s. Also, the F-104G is used for the Pakistani F-104A. Unfortunately, the F-104G only carries the AIM-9J or better missile, so the AIM-9Bs actually carried by the F-104s in this encounter are substituted by AIM-9Js.

Sargod71.btl

Raid on Sargodha

On December 4, 1971, the Indian Air Force launched a raid on Sargodha Air base in Pakistan. Four Su-7s were sent to rocket and stafe the base. Along the way, the Indians were intercepted by a Pakistani F-86 Sabre. One of the Su-7s ended up in a dogfight with the Sabre, but neither managed to achieve a kill.

Since the Su-7 is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the Su-17 for the Su-7.

This scenario was designed using information in:

Shorkot.btl

Raid on Shorkot/Rafiqui

On December 4, 1971, the Indian Air Force launched a raid on Shorkot/Rafiqui Air base in Pakistan. Four Su-7s were sent to attack the base. After they completed their attack, the Su-7s egressed back towards their home base at Amritsar, only to be intercepted by two Pakistani F-86s. The Pakistanis claimed one Su-7 downed.

Since the Su-7 is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the Su-17 for the Su-7.

Soan.btl

Combat Over Soan Valley, 12:30 December 5, 1971

On this day, a pair of Pakistani F-6s were scrambled to intercept two intruding Indian Hawker Hunters. In a low level dogfight, both Hunters were destroyed and both pilots killed.

Su7vf6.btl

On December 8th, 1971, during the India-Pakistan War, a photo-reconnaissance mission was launched by India. A Su-7 from No.32 Squadron was on its way to it's target when it was intercepted by a Pakistani F-6. The two aircraft tangled, and the Indians claim that the Su-7 destroyed the F-6 with cannon fire.

As the Su-7 is not modeled in FC2, I have used an SU-17 as a substitute. To make this photo-recon mission work, the "Su-7" is provided with one bomb so that, in a one player game where the human player plays as Pakistan, the Indian Su-7 is forced to fly over the target hex (represented by one infantry unit). For the human player playing as India, the Su-7 must fly over and bomb the Pakistani infantry unit before it can disengage.

Tezgaon.btl

On December 4, 1971, four MiG-21MFs flew a strike mission into Pakistan to attack the air base at Tezgaon. This strike package was intercepted by three F-86 Sabres. The Indians claim that all three Sabres were destroyed by cannon and/or Atoll missile fire.

Umarkot.btl

On December 17, late in the 1971 India-Pakistan War, a flight of Indian Marut's on a strike mission near Umarkot were intercepted by two F-104s. Escorting MiG-21s tangled with the F-104 fighters, and the Indians claimed to destroy both Starfighters with Atoll missiles.

Since the HAL Marut is not modeled in FC2, I have substituted the Orao 2 for the Marut. The F-104G serves in place of the F-104A.
