On March 26, 1999, two US F-15Cs flying a patrol as part of Operation Allied Force detected two serbian MiG-29s violating Bosnian airspace. The two F-15s flew further into Bosnian space and took up a position of disadvantage to determine the intent of the Serbian MiGs. The MiGs continued in an aggressive posture, heading towards the F-15s and NATO ground forces. It was decided that the MiGs harbored hostile intent and needed to be engaged. The F-15s maneuvered for advantage and fired on the MiGs with AIM-120 missiles, destroying both. The pilot of the lead F-15 (Captain Jeffrey Hwang) was credited with both kills.
