I recently met up with an old school friend who's little boy goes the the same school as mine, I mentioned I am a Radio Amateur and he told me his Mum used to be before she passed away some 15 years ago.
He still had some of her equipment in his attic and it turns out to be a Kenwood TS-440S-AT HF transceiver and a Realistic Pro 2004 VHF/UHF 300 Channel scanner. I have bought the scanner and am testing and cleaning up the TS-440 for sale.
A problem..... I don't want to let the TS-440 go!!!!
It has been in the wars cosmetically but it has all the options fitted: CW and SSB Filters; auto ATU and speech synthesiser. IT works like a dream and the SSB and CW filtering is superb. I have cleaned it as much as possible and have made some good contacts with good audio reports, I like it!!
The scanner is fantastic too - it is a real old fashioned proper engineered scanner. Steel case, internally screened sections galore (in fact to see a component is difficult!), the audio is superb too. There is not a lot to scan in North Wales but as it covers the FM Broadcast band it has become instantly useful and is so much more sensitive than the Sangean ATS 505 and Degen DE1103. Local Marine and Airband frequencies have been added and still more to add.
