Powers: Clover is a mutate with a ten foot wingspan that allows for flight. When flying, she can reach speeds up to a seventy five miles per hour. Clover can also enhance the abilities of other mutants when her skin glows bright white. Often this results in an temporary heightened state; a mutant may feel stronger and more energized, with their powers pushed to their full limit. Occasionally the affects are more unpredictable, as Clover can trigger untapped genetic potential within mutants. She has caused regular mutants to mutate physically at a rapid rate, powers to change completely or spiral out of control, and other mostly undesired results.
Clover possesses a Soulsword of Bata's Circle, a weapon bestowed upon her by Magik, the ruler of Limbo. It is stored inside her at all times and can be summoned to the palm of her hand when needed. The Soulsword has several magical attributes it grants whomever wields it, such as increased strength, absorbing magical spells and deflecting energy based attacks. There are other magical and mystical benefits but Clover is not a magic user and therefore cannot use them.
Power Limitations: While Clover can normally control when her enhancement power is in affect, it often triggers in response to physical pain or emotional distress. Only those within twenty yards of Clover are affected by her powers, and the results escalate the closer one stands. She cannot control who her power affects, and the results will be different from mutant to mutant. Clover cannot carry anyone while she is flying, and can handle no additional weight over twenty pounds. If there is no wind, then there is no way for her to maintain extended flight, which makes it difficult to fly indoors. If her wings are removed, they would grow back over several months.
The Soulsword will only adsorb and deflect magical and energy based attacks when the sword is outside of Clover's body and the attack is directed at her specifically. Clover can still be harmed if she doesn't see the attack coming and doesn't have the sword up to act as a shield. The strength granted by the Soulsword is merely an impressive increase, she is strong but could not lift a car and throw it. The strength is active at all times as long as the sword is in her possession.
Hobbies and Interests: Clover loves shopping, all types of music, art house movies, and is an animal rights freak. She's vegan, eats no animal by-products or meats, and also doesn't use or wear animal materials like wool or silk. She's grown to have an appreciation for wine and fruity cocktail drinks. She also loves fashion design and working with fabrics; she makes most of her own clothes and jewelry. She can cross stitch, hemp, knit and use the sewing machine like a maniac. She also loves to draw, sketch and paint. Lately she's been suffering a creative block when it comes to art and while she hasn't done anything creative in a long time she still loves it.
Background: Amy got pregnant with Clover when she was still married to James, Dallas's father. The marriage was an unhappy one and the two had only married out of convenience when Dallas was born. They divorced on counts of adultery and Dallas went to live with his father, while Amy moved in with Wayne across the state. Though Amy hated to lose Dallas, she was happy to be in a new promising marriage and was overjoyed when Clover was born. She tried to get into contact with Dallas and James several times, often sending birthday presents and cards, but James always refused them until eventually she gave up. Clover grew up in a happy family, middle class, and had a strong bond to both her parents, especially her mom. Clover and Amy connected through Clover's love of art and design, Amy helped her daughter make her first dress, and taught her how to sew and knit. Amy always fully supported her daughter on anything she'd ever done, and the two were always good friends. Considering Amy wasn't the most mature mother around, and acted as much of a kid as Clover, if not more so. Clover's mutation started out slowly, causing her to gradually get get shorter, paler, and thinner. It was actually well accepted by the family, though Clover was in a lot of pain. Amy feared taking her mutant daughter to the hospital would cause unwanted trouble. Distraught, she simply tried to calm her daughter as much as possible, calling close friends and relatives to see if they knew what she could do. Amy ended up calling James and was shocked to hear Dallas had moved out under eighteen and was living in New York. She heard rumors of what the school was truly for and eventually got the phone number, called and asked about it. Shortly after she registered Clover to attend the Grey Instituite, not only to help her daughter deal with her appearance and her powers but also in hopes she would see her son again. The family parted on good terms, promising to call. Clover was looking forward to going to the school, though it was hard for her to leave her mother behind. In the beginning, she was looking for a fix, maybe some possible way to revert back to normal form on a whim, as with her appearance now her dreams of becoming a model like her mother had been were crushed every time she looked in the mirror. Eventually she came to terms with the fact she would never look normal again, and with the help of the school learned to celebrate it. For a long time Clover failed to confront Dallas about the two of them being related, much to her mother's disappointment. In Clover's mind, there were several distractions and reasons, but really she was afraid of his reaction. One excuse was Clover's power surfacing with unexpected results, bringing with it a wave of unpleasant incidents between herself and some of the students. One was with a female student, Ilima, who was her closest friend and biggest crush, and involved their first kiss where her powers surged, causing Ilima to mutate at a rabid speed, a bloody and unnatural process. There were other, smaller incidents, and students started avoiding her completely.
Jean took Clover under her wing, tried to help Clover get a grasp on her uncontrollable powers. She was briefly assigned being the carrier of the SoulSword for Kurt, but decided the job wasn't for her when she was kidnapped by those trying to steal it from her. She eventually handed off the sword to another student, Morghan, with Kurt's approval, to watch over it and put the sword's magics to use.
Eventually, Clover ran out of excuses to avoid confronting her brother, and lying to her mother about it made her feel horribly guilty. Right when she was working up her courage to tell him, Dallas's father James appeared and pulled Dallas out of the school. When he got back, Clover finally told Dallas and wasn't surprised when he was upset. The two got in a fight but eventually Dallas seemed to get over it - Clover couldn't be happier, and as soon as possible invited her parents to meet Dallas, much to his annoyance. Their relationship was rocky at first, but smoothed over with time and now Clover is happy to have a big brother around.
When Ilima left the school after graduation, the two broke up out of convenience since they wouldn't be able to see each other as much anymore. Clover was distraught over the break up, as Ilima was her first crush, first love, first girlfriend, first kiss...and everything else. At first they visited each other on long weekends and vacations, but grew apart with time. A hopeless romantic at heart, her crushes came and went. Even though her first love was a girl Clover also thought boys were cute, so she dated Richard for awhile.
Clover met a girl named Grace who seemed to take interest in her right away, and the two became a fast item. Separate from that, she started working harder with the teachers to get onto the senior team and earn a little respect in the school - with little results. Eventually Clover gave up when she kept being denied addition to one of the teams and decided to turn her focus towards her art and her favorite thing - fashion.
Clover was further inspired when Ryan De Vries, the designer and creator of one of Clover's favorite fashion lines - Thread of My Broken Heart - came to stay at the mansion after being publicly outed as a mutant. The two became fast friends and Ryan was very supportive of Clover's talent. Clover spent her time readying a portfolio to land an internship with retired super model and fashion designer Mary Jane Parker. Shortly before she graduated from high school classes at the Grey Institute she was accepted for the internship and couldn't of been more excited.
At her graduation ceremony held in Westchester, the event center was attacked by a pack of werewolves after one of the X-Men's students, Gabe O'Grady. Clover was separated from the others and brutally attacked by the pack's leader, Ula, who ripped off both her wings and nearly killed her. Clover's close friends Daniel and Zahra were also killed in the attack. While their healer Thomas did what he could for her he could do nothing about her severed wings and she had to get the stumps surgically removed. The surgery was very painful but it wasn't much compared to how she felt losing Daniel - she couldn't be excited about her internship or graduating anymore. She felt disfigured, and had to take physical therapy to learn to keep her balance and walk correctly without them and while her internship was put off she still started working for Mary Jane towards the end of the summer.
Clover had a hard couple of months, her girlfriend Grace cheated on her with Aisha, resulting in their break up, and Clover's friend Ryan left the school. The internship has been more stressful than she could ever imagine, and she has little time to herself. Several months after the incident, Clover began to experience severe back pain, and after going to the doctor it became obvious her wings were growing back, and at an accelerated rate. She was forced to take time off work, and the next few weeks were very painful for her. Her wings were weak at first, but they continued to grow up to a ten foot wing span. She took some flying lessons with Emerald, and was happy to be whole again.
As the X-Men continued fighting for their dream, Clover was working towards her own. She was never involved in the action, until one day when the mansion was attacked by a horsemen of Apocalypse. She joined the students in defense of the school but the building was still nearly leveled. When Jean decided she wouldn't rebuild the school, Clover decided to buy an apartment in NYC to continue her internship with Mary Jane. She wanted to focus on fashion full time, and her dedication didn't go unnoticed.
After her internship was complete, Clover became one of the assistant designers on Mary Jane's staff. Over the years, she became more prominent, climbing her way up to one of the three head designers. During this time, Clover became more involved in META, Mutates for Equal Treatment Alliance, and was in a serious relationship with the organizations zealous leader, Prima. Once Meredith graduated high school at the Massachusetts Academy, she moved in with Clover and also was a part of META. The organization was know for its extreme activism and eventually Prima persuaded Clover to help her stage a protest during NYC's fashion week.
It was meant to be a flashy but nonviolent protest of the industries stance on mutation, but some of the members went too far and the protest got out of hand. A lot of important people were hurt, some well known models, and Mary Jane herself. Hailey, Prima's ex girlfriend, came forward with proof of Clover's involvement and Clover was fired and blacklisted from the fashion industry. The scandal was very publicized and during the trail Clover was harassed by paparazzi constantly. Prima eventually broke up with Clover, breaking her heart. Since it was impossible to get a job after the ordeal, Clover tried to return to art school and a normal life.
Clover tried to blend in, but was still hounded by paps and was constantly shadowed by her failure and her mistake. She dropped out of college after only one year, and still had trouble finding a job. Since she'd continued spending money like she had before, Clover lost her fancy apartment and ended up in debt by hundreds of thousands of dollars. She tried to get a less expensive place for her and Meredith, but couldn't pass any credit check. Once she was completely out of money, Aisha reached out to her, offering a 'pity job' as the visual arts teacher at the newly reopened Grey Institute. Clover accepted, but couldn't help feeling ashamed, like she was a complete mess and a failure.
Once she was back at the school, Clover also became an official part of the X-Men team. She hadn't wanted to be an X-Man since she was fifteen, but now she took a paycheck wherever she could. During a mission to Limbo, the Soulsword was returned to Clover from Magik. Clover was the only person in the last decade that hadn't been corrupted by its power, including Magik herself, so Magik believed the sword would be safest with her.
Personality: Clover likes to stand out to express who she really is inside; one of a kind, a true individual. She wants to be beautiful, weird, crazy and fun all rolled up into one freaked out piece of artwork; herself. She is assertive, open, and a social butterfly at their best. However, there is a certain sadness to her now. Clover is bitter over the many things she's lost and regretful of the mistakes she's made along the way. She's crashed and burned, destroying her one chance to pursue her dream. She views her involvement with the X-Men as simply the last people who will take her and has maintained a defeatist attitude since returning to the Grey Institute.
Special Notes (if any): Clover has had breast augmentation surgery done, and also changed her last name from "Young" to "Valentia" after her favorite province in Italy. She has designed tattoos for characters Gunner, Raquel and Tamara.
