Powers: Aisha possesses the psionic ability to control the level of moisture in the air, allowing her to create fog, clouds and eventually rain or drizzle. She can also transform her body into fog, allowing her to travel through small openings, under doors, or fly/float. She can turn one part of her body into fog while keeping the rest of herself intact, is able to disperse herself over wide ranges of areas and can easily bring herself back together if pushed apart.
Power Limitations: Aisha has to change the moisture in the air to create the affect of her powers, which takes time and requires a working atmosphere, meaning she would be completely useless in space. She also needs a great amount of moisture to transform herself, so its difficult for her to use her powers in deserts, very dry areas or around fire, then in some tropical climates. She has conscious control of herself in the transformed state, but cannot speak when she is completely transformed. She cannot change the structure of the chemical components within the air element, such as she cannot coalesce toxic atmospheric pollutants into toxic fog or acid rain. She has also shown to be sensitive to the dynamics of the natural world, and her mood can sometimes be affected by the weather and vice versa.
Hobbies and Interests: Nature, Aisha is at her most relaxed when outside. She is very active and into personal health and fitness, so she loves to swim and jog, and many other outdoor activities, daily, if she can manage it. She often diets, picking up on the latest trends in fitness in one way or another. She loves animals, and people, reading, playing chess, and tending her gardens. When she is stressed, she tends to clean obsessively or micro manage others.
Background: Shortly after Aisha was born in Meru, Storm rejoined the X-Men and Aisha saw her very little. Kwami, her father, was stubborn and wanted Aisha to be raised close to his old village, so would not move back to New York with Ororo to live at the X-Man mansion. Her father took care of her the most, with Ororo often flying back and forth between work and home, trying to find a balance between the two. When Aisha was three Storm's life was lost in a fight with Riot and Magneto; while Aisha wasn't affected by this since she hadn't been around her mother much, it affected her father greatly. For a long time he carried a sadness with him and Aisha was the only thing that seemed to keep him happy; the reminder of her mother. Kwani was never quite the same, but it was the father she grew up with, and Aisha loved him. Kwani focused everything on her, quitting job after job to spend more time with her. He used the money left from Ororo's death to fund Aisha's schooling, only sending her to the most expensive English academies.
Aisha was very athletic and driven from the start, energetic and ready to take the world on her own two feet. Her powers started to surface at the young age of ten, and in the beginning they ran wild, causing problems in the city whenever she was upset. Kwami had to keep her calm at all hours, otherwise destruction was caused and people were hurt. Aisha became an expert at suppressing her emotions in an attempt to never let her mind state affect her powers. As a result of this she became a very mellow and calm child and stopped being competitive. She learned very little about her power because she simply cut it off and buried it, rather then working with the results of it.
Kwami was beginning to grow old and sick, though he was still a pleasant man who loved his daughter very much, and always wanted the best for her. When he grew too sick from cancer to support her he arranged to have Aisha sent to America to live with a friend once he died. He wanted her out of Africa and to a better place, realizing he had been wrong to keep Aisha from her mother when she'd had the chance. He told her there she would be more accepted and people would see her for her true beauty and potential. She knew he wanted her to become an X-Man and follow in her mothers footsteps and she had planned from a very young age to do just that, to show respect to her mother's and soon, her father's spirit. His death was very painful for her and what was left of his family, though he had seemed peaceful it had not been a death without pain and suffering, something that had tortured him slowly for years.
Aisha wrapped up those feelings and emotions carefully as she packed her bags to travel to American, arriving in Virginia to meet her father's old friend. A man by the name Aloba Dastoor or simply Monsoon, her GrandWatcher and the receiver of her father's spirit. Her father choose him because he had similar powers as she and had always been there to help him when in need. He told her it was time to stop running away from her powers and instead to embrace them - he taught her many things about her abilities, how to use them and control them, and he was also the one that gave her original codename, Hurricane.
After learning all she could from him, Monsoon decided to let her pursue her dream and enrolled Aisha to attend the classes at the Grey Institute for Higher Learning as soon as it opened. Aisha was a part of the first wave of students when Grey first opened, and when Jean decided to close the school after only a few months due to outside events, she promised to invite Aisha back once it re-opened. Four years later Aisha rejoined to assist with the current students in a rescue mission involving the Friend's of Humanity mission and has been at the school ever since. She's trying to fulfill her dream of being just as great as her mother, so she can save even more people and change the world, but has often felt as if she's fallen short or isn't good enough.
After over a year at the school, Aisha has a handle on her powers and a much better understanding of who she is, and who her mother was. All hidden animosity towards her mother for leaving her father left, as she realized how hard it was to be an X-Man, and to fright at your friend's side and sometimes lose them - the first mission in Genosha was her first taste of that, when fellow teammate Charlene Rook was killed by Riot, the same man that had a hand in killing her own mother. The dark feelings that surfaced that day and from then on were sometimes hard to control, and her leadership abilities on that mission were not ignored by the Grey Ins. staff. She was named team- leader of the Red team, along side David Grey and has taken the position very seriously.
Throughout her time at the mansion Aisha was approached by many possible suitors, all of which were dear friends to her, making her nervous about starting any relationships. Aisha had never had a boyfriend before, much less a first kiss, which caused her shyness to play into politely turning down their offers. Things only started to get more confusing
when she developed a bit of a crush on her best friend, Sarell, but wasn't sure what to make of it. She was never really able to form the words to tell her friend how she felt, so instead she let the crush slip into the background and simply ignored it. School-work and saving the world seemed to take priority over silly teenage crushes, anyway, which she still firmly believed when Richard started the dance of trying to get her to go on dates with him. Often she'd go with him, under the disguise of friendship, and the two of them never really seemed to go anywhere despite both of them obviously having strong feelings. Over the summer, they shared their first kiss after a mission, and just as Aisha was considering making the relationship official, something horrible happened.
The death of Sarell hit Aisha very hard, causing her to retreat almost completely into herself; her habit of hiding her emotions and distancing herself from others was worse than ever, and her and Richard had a falling out. Around the same time, her mentor and friend, Aloba, the last of her family, grew sick with heart disease. Aisha did not share this news with anyone and spent many of her weekends and school breaks leaving to take care of Aloba. It was impossibly painful to watch the man that meant so much to her degrading slowly and then dying just as her father had, but she never once cried. Normally she would consider this a victory, but she was haunted constantly by the complete emptiness she feet inside.
Through everything, Aisha remained a productive student at the Institute. She graduated as a senior at the top of her class and with pride delivered her Valedictorian speech at the ceremony. She continued on to take college level classes, and has been appointed a tutor for any students needing help with their studies. She was a trained medical assistant and had access to all the restricted areas of the sublevels. She organized a book club with her close friend Daniel and helped the year book committee with funding and pictures throughout the years. The Headmaster and X-Men field commanders seemed to hold her opinion in high esteem. She always wanted to project this image of perfection even if inside she felt like something broken and unworthy - it was hard for her to show her true self to anyone, which was maybe why it took her so long to finally accept being Richard's girlfriend.
The two of them were happy, though Aisha often wondered if they were missing something and if so was that her fault? They were together for almost a year when Daniel expressed feelings for her and gave her a kiss, leaving Aisha speechless. He was quick to apologize and Aisha decided it was best to ignore what happened and any feelings that might be budding - though guilt still drove her to tell Richard everything. The two had a fight, and while they stayed together, it was never the same after that. Only a few short weeks later, the event center where they were holding graduation for that year's seniors was attacked by a pack of werewolves, and Daniel was killed in front of Aisha. She felt anger like she had never experienced before, and that emptiness inside was replaced with pure uncontrollable rage. She struck back at their attackers, and lost control of her powers, putting the lives of her fellow students and one of her mentors in danger. The worst part was, she didn't care.
Aisha caused more damage to the area than the actual attackers had, and only a few short days after Daniel and Zahra's funeral (another who had died during the attack) Aisha was asked to step down from her role as a leader and indefinitely suspended. Shortly after, Richard and her had a falling out and he left to join Excalibur, breaking up with her. After having lost the two people who meant the most to her, as well as a position on the team she'd been so proud of, Aisha was not only devastated but angry and bitter. When a girl named Grace, her only close friend at the mansion anymore, seemed to take an interest in her Aisha decided to act on her feelings for once instead of hiding from them. Grace was already involved with Clover, but the two had a short affair anyway. Aisha felt empowered by her selfish behavior instead of ashamed for the first time. For her entire life, she'd been careful and sweet and despite that time and time again the people she cared for were taken away from her - so she felt perhaps it was time for change.
A change is exactly what Aisha got, when Clover discovered the affair she attacked Aisha, using her unusual powers on her - as a result Aisha's powers were dramatically and permanently changed. She suffered from burning aches in her body for several weeks, and slowly she lost the connection to her old abilities. She tried to learn how to control her new powers, but was angrier than ever at Clover for taking away a part of her, even if it was an 'accident.' Grace wouldn't talk to her anymore and eventually left the school, and Aisha felt lonelier than ever. Aisha was eventually made team leader again, but she worried she didn't have the chops anymore to fill the position.
That didn't turn out to be the case, and Aisha continued to impress her superiors. When Excalibur formed a new team in Egypt, Psylocke asked Aisha to be take the leadership position. After some quiet consideration, Aisha decided to take the once in a lifetime opportunity. When she transferred to Egypt she found out Richard had been selected to be on the team as well. After some bumpy beginnings, the two became friends again, and eventually started dating. With their long history and resentments, their relationship tended to be rocky, off and on again, but still Aisha knew Richard was the only person she'd ever truly loved.
After a very public disagreement over how a mission was handled, Richard called it quits again and decided to return to the Grey Institute. Aisha remained at Excalibur leading the team on many successful missions. She joined forces with the X-Men often, and came to their assistance whenever her old team needed it. She stayed in touch with her friends, especially Faith Jewell and Richard once their anger had cooled. She was the maid of honor when Faith and Dallas King were married, unable to help the feeling of being left behind. She'd always wanted to be a mom, and it was difficult being around Faith's children sometimes.
Aisha made an attempt to make herself available, and started dating a mutant named Lucas. He was charming, handsome and mature. The two dated for over a year and during that time, Aisha got pregnant. The two at first planned to be proud parents, but disagreements and arguments escalated and they split shortly after Aisha's daughter, Njeri Jaspers, was born. After taking a temporary leave from leadership, Aisha returned to Excalibur, but didn't have much of a heart for it anymore. She worried she would make the same mistake her own mother had, and leave Njeri all alone. With this on her mind, Aisha approached David Grey with a proposition to reopen the Grey Institute, which had since closed its doors.
Once that was all set into motion, Aisha left Excalibur and moved back to the United States, in Seattle, Washington. Using government funding and David's own wealth, she assisted Jean in selecting staff, and eventually bought out the Columbia Center skyscraper in down town Seattle. Aisha took the position as Headmistress, and also handled all public relations items related to the Institute. She was offered a leadership position in the X-Men as well, but turned it down. In the end, Aisha decided she was busy enough being the Headmistress, and she couldn't afford the risk of being in active duty anymore. She left the handling of the X-Men side of things in the capable hands of David and Gunner.
Personality: Aisha is very strong willed, focused and straight forward in what she believes in. She is calm at most hours, caring and soft toned. She almost never yells or gets upset and respects every person she meets. While she is always polite and kind, Aisha can sometimes be uncomfortable in social situations and while she craves acceptance and friendships, her shyness will often lead her to retreat and she be left out of the festivities. A natural Pantheist, she loves animals and nature.
Special Notes (if any): Model is Cassie Ventura.
