Powers: As a mutant Jian is able to display two kinds of unique and seemingly unrelated mutations, one being the ability to breathe in almost any atmosphere, and the other to push his consciousness into other sentient beings taking momentarily control of their bodies. The latter being a secondary mutation he developed later in life.
Primary power: Jian possesses two gills beneath both sides of his clavicle. These allow him to be able to breathe and survive almost any type of atmosphere including under water, the exception being the vacuum of space and toxic or chemical base liquids. This allows him to be able to survive any sort of gas attacks unaffected, as well as a limited resistance to gas poisoning. This ability decreases his chances of getting sick through normal means as well.
Secondary Mutation: Jian can also transport his consciousness into other creature’s minds. It can more commonly be viewed as a form of possession. The ability manifest in a trans-lucid replica of Jian (Of Blue or purple color) that can go into another being’s body. In this state he is able to ‘harmonize’ with the being and control their bodies for a short period of time. This often leaves the “victims” in a state of euphoria similar to being drugged after the fact. This also has a limited effect on Jian, allowing him to retain certain traits of whoever he harmonized with for a few hours, such as eating habits, taste, hobbies among other things. This also allows him to understand whatever language they speak.
Power Limitations:
Primary Powers: Due to his body being primarily human, even though he could survive in literally any atmosphere the same wouldn’t apply to other physical limitations (i.e: He could breathe underwater but wouldn’t be able to survive the pressure of going in too deep. Same goes for gases that are set affect skin, eyesight, stuff like that.)
The resistance to chemicals varies depending on how lethal the substance he inhales can be. Prolonged exposure could lead to some sort of physical reaction. This is particularly more obvious among chemical based liquids, as most of the time a certain amount of it could still remain in his lungs. The time he would remain “healthy” among these situations could be about 20 minutes or less, depending on the situation.
Secondary Powers: Telepaths posses a complete immunity to this power, probably due to the power being mental in nature. The possession only last 5 to 10 minutes depending on the person’s resistance or awareness of what is happening (it’s easier for him to take control of someone he takes by surprise.) The drugged after effect only lasts a few minutes as well though it wears off in a gradual manner. His body remains shut down while he does this, leaving him vulnerable as he can’t reconstitute himself till after the “victim” expels his astral form. When in possession of the other person’s body he doesn’t have access to that person’s thoughts or memory (The traits he retains being more of a muscle memory after experiencing someone else’s body).
Hobbies and Interests: Jian enjoys dancing, it’s something he’s passionate about and quite good at. He also enjoys cartoons a lot, and expresses interest in becoming a voice actor, as he can do several types of voices.
Background: After Jian was born, it was clear to his parents he was a mutant, and not wanting him to have to deal with that growing up, considering how small their community was, they decided from early on to shelter him from as many bad experiences they could. Because of that Jian was home schooled by his father for most of the day at his father’s work, a An Area 51 Theme Museum called The Weird.Despite this, Jian was very social with the kids in his neighborhood, and when he was old enough to help at his mother’s diner, waiting tables, he got very familiar with most of the high school crowd. Many liked him because he had a pretty easy personality, but some found he was weird and hiding something, though the overall consensus was that his parents were overprotective.Jian was always aware of what his gills could do, and he often used this power to swim by his lonesome at a local lake by the woods. He was eventually discovered by a local girl named Julie. She promised to keep his secret and the two began a brief romance. This wasn’t liked by her ex-boyfriend and Jian became the target of bullying.
For the most part it was harmless enough, but eventually Jian found himself alone with a group of the ex and his friends that were going to bully him. Jian’s secondary power manifested and he briefly possessed his attacker, controlling him to hurt the others in the group and revealing himself as mutant. The situation got worse when the police showed up and witnessed it all.
Knowing that Jian wouldn’t really have much of a proper or normal life anymore, his parents discussed a number of possibilities. Someone they knew suggested they try a new school that opened in Seattle that was especially designed for mutants. They were hesitant at first, mostly due to monetary reasons, but upon checking out that it was sufficiently back up by many sorts of financial aid plans they all agreed.
So, at 17, Jian was sent to the Mutant High and he for one, received this change with opened arms. He was so psych to not only be allowed to go to school, but everyone around him was very much like him. He was friendly with most of the students and was viewed as a kind goof. The only downside was that he was a bit behind academically so he often found himself with more of a workload than his peers the better to catch up.
He developed an obvious crush on one of the girl students, Virginia, which many of his closest friends in the school noticed and often urge him to get the balls to ask her, however, he pretty much let the first year slip by with the girl almost having no meaningful contact with him. However, upon finding out that she was trying out for a Trainee spot he figured it would be the perfect opportunity to get to spend more time with her the following year. He barely made the cut, but was happy with the result.
He didn’t want to go back to his parents during the summer, opting instead spending it at one of the student’s beach house.
Following the next year, he seemed to have back up a bit in his plans to ask Virginia out as it was pointed out how important becoming a future X-Men was by one of the X-Men themselves, Shane Vazquez. However, he has been trying to make more conversations with the girl happen, he pretty much left the holiday break get there before he got the courage to ask a date. He went home finally to his parents, and had an awkward run in with Julie who had got back together with her ex.
Personality: Jian has an outgoing personality and doesn’t often let people stay shy around him. He always tries to crack jokes with the purpose of cheering people up. When life hands him blows he often tries to brush them all away, as he doesn’t allow for negative thinking.
Special Notes: The model is Harry Shum Jr.
