Age: 26
Race: Mutant
Powers: Super-Speed. She can run at roughly half the speed of sound, but only for short bursts. About a mile or so away and she starts to fade. Her speed can be so forceful that she can smash through brick walls. Her momentum creates a barrier around her that protects her from impact. This keeps her from killing or impaling herself when she runs through something.
Electrokinetic siphoning: Marie can still eat and drink, but she must absorb electricity from her surroundings to live. And it fuels her body for super-speed.
Power Limitations: Excessive use of her powers burns up alot of juice, leaving her weakened. If her energy levels drop too far, she gets lethargic or could pass out, slip into a coma and die. She's constantly draining electricity, so if she gets full without discharging it somehow, she'll short something out, causing a biofeedback that actually electrocutes her. When she has a stockpile of electricity in her system, liquids will cause severe burns on the affected area of her skin. She can't absorb voltage through anything that's
well-insulated.
The protective barrier only works when she's in motion at high-speeds and only works head-on, ie. if she runs through a wall and stops, the falling debris could still injure her. Also, she can't run through steel yet. She'll bounce off, though she may dent it some. It leaves her woozy and possibly concussed,
though.
Hobbies and Interests: Marie used to enjoy soccer, piano, hip-hop music, tap dancing and singing jazz music. She would write her own songs, well over a hundred by now. Now, she just sulks because she had to move in with the other freaks.
Background: Marie is the second child of Jonathan and Leandra Knight, though she never knew it. She spent a carefree life as an only child in Maine High Society. Mutant-bashing and talking about purist events was natural to her since she grew up with the rhetoric every day of her life. Marie learned early in life that there was consequence to having power. Her family, fearing reprisals from enemies, kept her out of school and she was privately tutored at home. When she was ten, her father was murdered by the Sheiken Kyougi. She didn't know why they'd done it, but figured it was because of his position in the FoH. Her mother kept a much closer eye on her after that. When she was 11, she met her brother for the first time in her life - when he broke in and tried to murder their mother. After he couldn't go through with it and left, Leandra explained everything to Marie. How her brother was one of those evil mutants who hated people in power and why the FoH must put them in their place or be ruled by them forever. She even told her that Adrian was responsible for the death of their father because Jonathan had wanted a pure child and Adrian just wasn't it.
After the topple of the FoH figureheads, the new leader decided to teach Leandra a lesson for her failure. He took Marie away from Leandra and put her in the FoH labs. There, they exposed her to Compound Xium-19, a mutagenic serum that genetically alters the subject, giving them superhuman abilities. There were several subjects at the lab, each responding to the serum differently. The transformation was very painful, and for days they didn't think it worked. Marie was lethargic, barely moving or able to take in anything to eat or drink. When she was put on a diagnosis table, she began to shudder and long arcs of
electricity began to jump onto Marie's arms and face until her eyes glowed an eerie silver color.
It was then that they realized what her mutation was: electrokinetic siphoning. After a few more days of giving her just enough juice to power up, they noted that she was able to move about the room at high-speeds, and cut back her allowed voltage. For two years, they used Marie for experiments, testing her limits of pain tolerance and exposing her to different conditions and situations so that they could learn how to handle other mutants with her ability. All the while, her mother was made to watch the experiments for her failure to fend off the earlier massacre.
Recently, Leandra has been reinstated as head of the FoH. She couldn't bear to see her daughter tortured any longer, but she could no longer have that creature living under her roof. Her pure child was lost to her forever. So, she cast Marie out into the street to fend for herself. A team of SHIELD agents that had been keeping tabs on the FoH recognized Marie and picked her up. Their intel was outdated and they had no idea that she was a metahuman. She bounced around the van, hitting as many of them as she could until her powers began to fade. She hadn't had much voltage that day. They took her back to their base for questioning. Though her loyalty to the FoH was waning, she only gave them just enough to get them off her back. She has been released into the custody of her older brother, Adrian, at the Grey Institue.
Personality: She has always been a very snide, sarcastic person. Though she was raised with every luxury, she always felt separated, especially when she found out that most of her friends went to a private academy and she was privately tutored at home. The past two years have only made her more resentful of
authority figures. You want her to do something, tell her not to do it. Reverse psychology is usually your best bet. Now, she hates the world. She hates her family. She hates the new school that she must attend and she hates everyone in it.
Special Notes: Play by Vanessa Marano. Marie has been experimented on at a genetic level. She doesn't know that her condition is irreversible and that anymore genetic tampering to reverse her condition will kill her. This keeps her hopeful that she will be human again one day.
