Students develop skills in plant identification, floral design, and problem solving within the floriculture and greenhouse industry. The Floriculture Career Development Event (CDE) challenges participants to identify common greenhouse items and plants from the national list, while also completing a practicum that includes judging arrangements, propagation, and preparing floral and foliage products for sale. Team placement is determined by the combined scores of the top three individuals from each school, emphasizing both individual skill and team success.

This contest is capped at the first 16 schools to register. One team per school.

Description of the Contest:
The placement of teams will be determined by tabulating the three highest scores of contestants from the school.
The contest will consist of the following phases:
Identification of 25 common floriculture-greenhouse items such as Perlite, Peat, and Pot's. A period of 25 minutes will be allowed for this phase. Each item is worth one point.
Identification of 50 plants from the National Floriculture Plant Identification list. A period of 30-40 minutes will be allowed for this phase. Each item is worth one point.
Practicum

Individuals are expected to bring their own manual calculator, sharpened #2 pencils, paper, and clipboard free of notes and other markings.
