The Farm and Agribusiness Management Career Development Event (CDE) helps students learn business skills and apply economic principles to agricultural businesses. By competing, participants demonstrate their ability to analyze agricultural business management information, apply economic principles and concepts of business management, evaluate business management decisions and work together cooperatively as a team.

This contest is capped at the first 15 schools to register. One team per school.

Description of the Contest:
Contestants will be expected to know how to keep and analyze farm records, evaluate farm leasing arrangements, and determine the proper use of credit. Contestants should be familiar with using economic principles, budgeting, and logic to determine the proper combination of resources (capital, labor, land, etc.) for enterprises (dairy, swine, corn, etc.), and the economic relationships between resources and enterprises. Some understanding of agricultural programs and their effects on individual farmers will also be expected.
The contest will consist of:
Individual Activity
Written Exam - 50 one-point multiple choice questions. No resources or team collaboration. There will be 60 minutes allotted for this portion of the contest.
Team Activity
Each team will complete a collaborative activity. The team problem-solving activity will have 10 sections worth three points each for a total of 30 points. There will be 75 minutes allotted for this portion of the contest.
The team scores will be added to the individual scores. The top three contestants from a school will be used to calculate the school's combined total points. The maximum number of points for a school's combined score will be 240.
Tiebreakers: Team tiebreakers will be based on the high score of the last three questions of the team activity. Individual tiebreakers will be based on the high score of the last five questions of the multiple-choice exam.
Special Requirements:
Individuals are expected to bring their own manual calculator and sharpened #2 pencils.
