State Dairy Cattle Evaluation

Due to the capacity of the facility. This contest is capped to the 16 schools that score the highest on the screener written exam.
Qualification statement:
This is a state qualifying contest with the top teams advancing to the State FFA CDE Contest. The teams advancing to the state-level competition will be determined by the State FFA CDE guidelines.

Location Notes:
Teams will assemble in E108 (Culinary Theater) at the FVTC Main Campus Building.
Competitors will be transported by bus to MilkSource Genetics.
Competitors will return to FVTC for oral reasons.
Part of this contest will take place in a barn. Dress appropriately for the cooler climate as well as wearing closed toe shoes that are clean.
Description of the Contest:
The contest will consist of:
Written Screener Exam - Individuals will have to participate in a written screener exam on Dairy Cattle Management (insert date and time). This exam will consist of 50 questions worth 100 points. The exam will be taken on the Blackboard. Details for access will be given after registration. Team members will work individually.
Placing Classes (Live CDE Contest) - Teams will place four classes of dairy cattle provided by Milk Source Genetics of Kaukauna. Each class will take 15 minutes to place. Each class is worth 50 points for a total of 200 points. The class's placements will be marked on the provided scantron sheet. One class of cattle will have 5 Type analysis questions for the participants to answer. Answers will be marked on the provided scantron sheet. Each question is worth 10 points for a total of 50 points. A second class of cattle will be designated as the oral reasons class. Information on oral reasons is below. Team members will work individually.
Oral Reasons (Live CDE Contest) - Teams will travel back to the FVTC campus to give oral reasons to a judge. There will be NO speaking on the way back to campus to give oral reasons. There is a 2-minute time limit for each set of oral reasons. Notes can be used for oral reasons, but the overall score will be lower for contestants who use notes during reasons presentation. The oral reasons will be worth 50 points. Team members will work individually. Once a student completes oral reasons they have completed the contest.
