State Dairy Cattle Evaluation
The Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management Career Development Event (CDE) challenges participants to place multiple classes of dairy cattle, analyze type through targeted questions, and justify decisions through oral reasons. Individuals evaluate provided classes using placing, complete type analysis on one class, and deliver individual oral reasons for a designated class. This event prepares students for careers in dairy production and management by emphasizing accuracy, critical thinking, and clear communication.
Number of Teams
Due to the capacity of the host facility this contest is limited to the first 16 schools to register.

The contest will consist of:
Teams will place four classes of dairy cattle provided by Milk Source Genetics of Kaukauna. Each class will take 15 minutes to place. Each class is worth 50 points for a total of 200 points. The class's placements will be marked on the provided scantron sheet.
One class of cattle will have 5 Type analysis questions for the participants to answer. Answers will be marked on the provided scantron sheet. Each question is worth 10 points for a total of 50 points.
A second class of cattle will be designated as the oral reasons class. Teams will travel back to the FVTC campus to give oral reasons to a judge. There will be NO speaking on the way back to campus to give oral reasons. There is a 2-minute time limit for each set of oral reasons. Notes can be used for oral reasons, but the overall score will be lower for contestants who use notes during reasons presentation. The oral reasons will be worth 50 points. Team members will work individually. Once a student completes oral reasons they have completed the contest.

Special Instructions:
Due to the number of participants, travel, and oral reasons this contest takes significant time to complete.
Please make accommodations to NOT leave campus before 2pm if you have students participating in this contest.
Part of this contest will take place in a barn.
Dress appropriately for the cooler climate as well as wear closed toed clean shoes.
Individuals are expected to bring their own sharpened #2 pencils, paper, and clipboard free of notes and other markings.
