Dear Faculty and Staff,

As you may recall, WCPSS has continued to evolve the grant process, from the initial stages of Intent to Apply for WCPSS BOE approval to notification to Office of Grants of being awarded a grant. Grant process details can be found in the Intranet and Canvas. Remember, you must be signed in to your WCPSS Portal/WCPSS Google Account to access this information.

In a nutshell, once you have identified a grant for which you would like to apply, you must

- See me (Paige Elliott/School Grant Contact) and Mr. Clark to approve and submit the Intent to Apply form for a grant. This can only be completed by Paige Elliott or Kris Clark. We will need following information:
  - Your Grant Proposal Title
  - Funder
  - Funder's Deadline to Submit
  - Funder's Anticipated Notification of Grant Winners
  - Amount Requested
  - Theme (Art, SpEd, Stem, Supplies, Technology, Others)
  - Briefly describe the project and the goods or services you are seeking (1000 character limit). Provide specific item information and ensure all items are district approved. For technology equipment, review https://wakeconnect.wcpss.net/sites/purchasing/SitePage/6698/sample-purchase-orders. For software, review http://software.wcpss.net/web/. For furniture requests over $1,000, please consult with Facilities.
  - Some funders require applicants to match with money or service. If cash, in-kind, or matching funds are required, have you discussed the requirements with your supervisor and made arrangements to secure the required funds?
- Once approved by the BOE and Office of Grants, you may begin the grant application. Office of Grants will help you with the remaining steps.
- Notify us if and when you are awarded the grant.
- Create a file and keep all steps of grant process in it.

Flyers outlining the same information will be in the mail room and are attached as pictures in this email.

The Board of Education recently approved the following grant opportunities at their meeting on April 16. Check out the list below and the Grant Alerts page!

Rachael Ray Foundation, National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, ProStart Grant; provides up to $5,000 for ProStart schools or schools with culinary arts programs to upgrade or purchase new resources. The application deadline is May 1, 2024.

North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA), Better Together Grant; provides up to $1,000 to K-12 NCSLMA Member Media Coordinators and teachers for innovative projects that promote the integration of media/information skills in K-12 curriculum. The application deadline is May 12, 2024.

GRANTS WITH UPCOMING DEADLINES
Harbor Freight, Tools for Schools Grant; funding supports skilled trades education in high schools; funding level varies; applications are due May 3, 2024.

Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Youth Literacy Grant; up to $4,000 to implement or expand literacy programs and purchase technology, books, and materials that support literacy initiatives to help K-12 students who are not reading on grade level. The application deadline is April 25, 2024.

National Dairy Council, Fuel Up Grant; funding level varies; provides funding for school nutrition equipment kits to improve access to healthy meals in schools and increase student awareness of the importance of healthy eating. The application opens on March 12, and the deadline is April 9, 2024.

Southwest and Southland Dairy Farmers, Chocolate Milk Grant; provides up to $2,500 for high schools to purchase chocolate milk for student-athletes to restore their energy and replenish nutrients. The application deadline for fall sports is April 16, 2024.

We Need Diverse Books, Educators Making a Difference Grant; up to $2,000 for educators and librarians to integrate diverse literature in the classroom for K-12 schools; grant applications open March 1, 2024.

It Gets Better Grant Program; provides up to $10,000 for projects that uplift and empower LGBTQ+ youth in middle/high school. The application deadline is April 1, 2024.

The 4C Fund Grant cycle is now open! Teachers are invited to apply for up to $10,000 for innovative projects for projects that will take place during the 2023-24 school year.

Since 2015, the 4C Fund has fostered Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking, encouraging innovation in classrooms through grants aligned with the district’s strategic plan. A new strategic plan is underway and reflects the importance and value of having a strong, clear focus on the 4Cs while also attending to the social-emotional health and welfare of our students and staff. This year the 4C Fund will prioritize proposals from individuals or teams of teachers that engage students in innovative projects related to one or more of the 4Cs and/or projects that center the social and emotional learning and wellbeing of students.

To be selected for an award, applicants should make the case for how their project will develop competencies that will support and prepare WCPSS students for college, career, and/or productive citizenship. Projects may focus on competencies related to one or more of the 4Cs, as well as social and emotional learning competencies, such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. More information about the 4C Fund Grant may be found on WakeConnect.

The 4C Fund Grant Application Guidelines provide additional details about this opportunity. Virtual information sessions will be held on Thursday, January 5, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, February 1 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. These sessions will offer a time to talk through the application and give applicants a chance to ask questions. Let Them Play Foundation

Fall applications open August 1st; funding level of $500 - $5,000; provides funding for equipment to promote active play for students.

North Carolina Science Festival Grant

Various deadlines according to grade level; August 21st deadline for elementary schools; provides funding for science kits, which includes a planning guide, STEM activities and materials for participants to support their month-long celebration of science in April.

North Carolina Science Teachers Association (NCSTA)

Fall deadline September 1; up to $1,000; will pay up to one-half of expenses for members taking classes, attending conferences, or participating in workshops. They also provide funds for supplies, materials, equipment, printing, and other expenses related to innovative curriculum projects involving students.

AgCarolina Farm Credit

Deadline: October 15; up to $5,000; provides funding for agriculture-related projects that target one of four focus areas: education, environment, technology, or quality of rural life.

American Association of School Librarians (AASL)

North Carolina Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council Go Outside (GO) Grant

North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children (NCFPSC)

P. Buckley Moss for Children’s Education Foundation Grants

Applications accepted July 1, 2020 - September 30, 2020; provides up to $1,000 for projects integrating arts into the curriculum especially for children that learn differently.

Toshiba American Foundation Grants
