Severe Weather Plan/Tornado Drill Plan
An announcement or four consecutive bells will signal the beginning of the severe weather drill.
An air horn will be used in the event of no electricity.
All windows and doors should be closed.
All lights shall be turned off.
Relocate students to an interior wall with minimal to no windows.
Teachers should take attendance once students are in the assigned area.
Report missing student(s) to the administrator or designee in the building. This individual will inform the front office to determine if the student(s) are in that area. Any negative response will require a search for the missing student(s).
Students shall remain in the crouched position (facing interior walls, kneeling with hands covering back of head and elbows as close to the floor as possible) until the principal or designee indicates it is safe to return to class.
There should be no talking between students during the course of the drill.
If time does not permit students to go to their assigned area, all window covering shall be closed and desks should be used for cover.

Assistant Superintendent will notify principals by emergency radio system.
Principal will notify other administrators of the current situation and use local news media for weather advisory information.
The administrators/designees will notify all teachers in the school by visiting them personally.
Students will not be informed of possible danger, but regular classroom activities will continue.
The principal will ask the head custodian to act as a weather lookout outside the building.
School will be dismissed at the usual hour, and bus drivers will proceed along their regular routes with extra caution.
TORNADO WARNING: Tornado Has Been Sighted In The Area
The principal will receive warning by the emergency radio system from the superintendent’s office.
The principal or secretary will sound alarm, i.e. four bells. If there is no electricity, air horns should be used.
Students and staff will go to designated areas in accordance with school plans. All mobile classrooms are to be evacuated to a permanent building.
The custodial staff will turn off all utilities. All windows and doors are to be closed.
The secretary will lock file cabinets and otherwise secure records.
Students and staff will assume a crouched position as to protect eyes and head once they reach the designated areas.
The teachers will take roll and notify an administrator or office if someone is missing.
The principal, or designee, will organize a search if someone is missing.
Qualified personnel will administer first aid if necessary.
Students and staff will return to classrooms only when the principal, or designee, declares that it is safe to do so.
NO WARNING: Tornado Seen Approaching School
Sound the alarm.
The teachers will see that windows and doors are closed.
The teachers will assist students into the hall and have them assume a crouched position along the walls or pre-determined areas.
If time does not permit students to go into the hall, close windows/blinds and use classroom desks for cover.
