Set in a remote village in Algeria in 1995, a small group of French Cistercian monks is confronted by Islamic terrorists. The film shows a clash of beliefs, making it clear that good as as evil can be taken to extremes in the name of God. Based on real events, the film does not require the audience to share its belief. The winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2010.
"One can't help but be overwhelmed by its raw humanism" Sight and Sound
