Une Partie de Campagne
Une Partie de Campagne is a 1936 French short film written and directed by Jean Renoir based on a story by Guy de Maupassant, a friend of Renoir's father, the well-known painter Auguste Renoir. It chronicles a love affair over a single summer afternoon in 1860, along the banks of the Siene. Renoir never finished filming due to weather problems, but producer Pierre Braunberger turned the material into a release in 1946, ten years after it was shot.
Henri Cartier-Bresson, the famous photographer, makes a brief appearence as a seminarian. Blink and you miss him!
Jean Renoir's tribute to the countryside and the river, echoes his father's painting.
