Surname Webb originated in England.
The surname Webb, was taken from the name, “Webbe “a name given to a weaver of fabric, from Old English word, meaning woven cloth. The surname Webb was considered an Occupational surname. In England, Many surnames developed from a person’s job or trade. English surnames as we know them today – family names passed down intact from father to son to grandson – began in England as early as the eleventh century. Such hereditary names were not universally common, and settled.
It is estimated, that the introduction of parish registers in 1538 was a great influence in this, as a person entered under one surname at baptism would not be likely to be married under another name, and buried under a third.

Webb is an English or Scottish name describing a weaver, similar to Weaver, Weber, and Webster. Derived from Old English "webbe", meaning woven cloth, during medieval times webbe could distinguish a male weaver and webster a female one. Webb family history in England traces back to feudal times and a family seat in Wiltshire. In America, Webb genealogy includes early immigrants to Massachusetts in 1628. The Webb crest features an eagle symbolizing protector and the coat of arms has a gold cross between four gold falcons, symbolizing perseverance in faith. Captain Matthew Webb was the first person to swim across the English Channel in 1875.
