Montenegro
Montenegro (Crna Gora in Montenegrin) is situated in south-east Europe, and has a total area of about 13,810 square kilometres. It is bordered to the north by Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina, by Serbia and Kosovo to the east, by Albania to the south, and by the Adriatic Sea to the west. For further details on the country, see the Wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montenegro.
Geographically the country can be divided into five areas:
A narrow coastal plain along the Adriatic.
A spine of mountains running from the north-west to the south-east behind this coastal plain. These mountains are a subsidiary spine of the Dinaric Alps, which also spans parts of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Albania. The range is mainly composed of sedimentary rocks - limestone and dolomite. The highest mountain in the Montenegran part of the range is Orjen (1894m) with a prominence of about 1024 metres.
The main spine of the Dinaric Alps, trending north-west to south-east. Here lie the highest mountains in the country. The two highest massifs are Durmitor (highest peak Bobotov kuk 2523m, prominence 1480m) in the north, and Prokletije (highest peak in Montenegro Zla Kolata 2534m).
The Zeta and Bjelopavlići Plains, which stretch from Lake Scutari in the south towards Nikšić in the north.
The north-eastern Dinaric Alps, running north-west to south-east along the Serbian border. The highest mountain in the Montenegran part of the range is Ljeljeni vrh (1856m) with a prominence of about 621 metres.
The highest mountain in Montenegro is Zla Kolata (2535m), which has a prominence of about 110 metres. The most prominent peak is Bobotov Kuk (2523m), with 1480 metres of prominence. There are seventy-three mountains in the country over 2000 metres in height, with at least 150 metres of prominence.
