3. THE MIGRATION TO KUTTANADU

FIFTH GENERATION

MAMBALATHU THOMMI PANICKER

Thommi Panicker's voyage from Kottayam to Kuttanadu landed him at Kannady. Thommi Panicker when he was at the Kottayam royal palace (കോട്ടയത്തു മനയ്ക്കൽ), had on matters of state craft shown his face to KOCHAPPA THAMPURAN (കൊച്ചപ്പതബുരാൻ) of LAKSHMIPURAM CASTLE (ലക്ഷ്മീപുരത്തു കൊട്ടാാരം) of Changanacherry on many occasions. He was thus very familiar with Kochappa Thampuran. In those days Kochappa Thampuran of Changanacherry Lakshmipuram castle was residing at PULLA#M-PLA#YIL (പുല്ലംപ്ളായിൽ) palace in Kannady(കണ്ണാടി).

Thommi Panicker went before Kochappa Thampuran (കൊച്ചപ്പതബുരാൻ) and told him about his misfortunes and how he had to leave the kingdom due to the wrath and fury of the king of Kottayam. On hearing Thommi Panicker's sorry plight Kochappa Thampuran (കൊച്ചപ്പതബുരാൻ) felt compassionate and was impressed by the sincerity and virtues that he found imbedded in Thommi Panicker. The Thampuran then bestowed upon Thommi Panicker by decree, the property MAMBALA#M (മബലം), which previously had been a temple that had fallen into disuse. He also granted three acres (30 പറ) of fields on the river bank adjacent to it. Mambalam was situated east of the Pullamplayil castle. Even today the Mambalam homestead is in the hands of the descendants of Thommi Panicker.

Thommi Panicker had four sons namely ITTOOP (ഇട്ടൂപ്പ്), ITTY(ഇട്ടി) ,CHACKO (ചാക്കൊ) and KOSHY (കോശി). He also had one daughter named MARIAM. Living in Kannady he fully became engaged in agriculture and he steadily prospered. He acquired more fields and other movable properties. He led a happy and prosperous life thereafter with his children. In all his endeavors Thommi Panicker had the unstinted help and support of Kochappa Thampuran (കൊച്ചപ്പതബുരാൻ).
