VAKKACHAN (വക്കച്ചൻ), the youngest of Shouvriyaarachan's (ശൌരൃാരച്ചൻ) sons graduated [B.A] from Calcutta and came back home. He ventured in many business. He was a calm and determined person. Like his father he was brilliant and dogged in achieving his aims, whatever the difficulties be. He was an able entreprenuer. He withdrew from business because of the need for huge investments and the technical advise against it. And primarily due to the fact that at that period of time, getting a viable returns from such a huge investment was very unsure. He then started GEO PICTURES centered in Kottayam. It was film company and a very new and emerging field. He ran it very successfully. He was shrewd and soft spoken.

Vakkachen married ALEYAAMMA (ഏലിയാമ്മ) the daughter of NITHI-RI-KAL JOHN VAKKEEL (നിധിരിക്കൽ ജോൺ വക്കീൽ) of Kuruvilangadu (കുറുവിലങാട്). Aleyaamma was a simple and pious woman. They had nine children named, THANKAPPAN, KUTTAPPAN, MATHACHAN, LEELAAMMA, THOMMACHAN, JOSE, MARIEAMMA, GEORGEKUTTY, and KURIACHAN.

A TRIBUTE TO A NOBLE LADY.

Her name is Mrs. Aleyamma George, wife of late N.X.George Ettuparayil, Kottayam. On I6th November 2008 early morning the Heavenly Father called her to His divine home at the age of 95. She has finished her journey and has run the full course like an athlete for the imperishable crown! In her later years we could notice from her smiling face, a complacency of reaching the heavenly bliss. We have found nothing could deter her from her saintly dreams and she talked about the heavenly bliss she was aspiring for whenever we visited her in her last days. She was seen imbibed the saintliness by the finger touch of God. Even at a time when she could not remember the names of her children in the order of their birth during her last days, she could sing any church hymn completely, if you can give a start on the first lines! Prayers were more or less her own companions and formed part of her life and she always enjoyed and cherished it, however long it may appear to us. Daily mass and receiving the Holy Communion was part of her daily rituals which she shared with her husband all through their lives together. The sacraments were treasures for her daily life; they were the guarantees she looked for the presence of God in her life. She gave all to those who sought help as part of her hospitality and she sought none. Her home catered all those who visited the town for any business in town and food was available to all the stream of visitors, which included all out- of- town nuns, priests etc. There were so many numbers of people touched and benefited by her. She never rested from her household chores. I always admired her dedication to the comforts of all the members of the family with such untiring care, vigor and strength. She was simple, unassuming, modest and monastic in her ways. We received much from her, and now we had to let her go. The glory of God is seen on someone made fully alive. She was an intensely alive person, wonderfully whole, and certainly her life gave glory to God. We have a rare photo of Mother Teresa taken with her during the Mother’s visit to her house in Kottayam. Both of them stand shoulder to shoulder in their saintly nature. The photo, which adores our homes, points towards the heavenly abode where they are now walking together holding their hands.

N.G.XAVIER(Thankappan) (തങ്കപ്പൻ) the eldest son of N.X.George, married SILLAMMA (സില്ലമ്മ) the daughter of PARU-THICKAL (പരുത്തിക്കൽ) THOMMICHEN (തൊമ്മിച്ചൻ) of Pulincunnu (പുളിങ്കുന്നു). They settled in Kottayam (കോട്ടയം). They have three children named George(Giju) (ജിജു), Jaya (ജയ) and Thomas. He passed away on 23rd May 2016, at the age of eighty three.

1. N.X.GEORGE (GIJU) is an author and publisher. He married BINU, daughter of KALAPURACKAL (കളപ്പുരക്കൽ) Thomas, from Kainakary (കൈനകരി). She runs a business. They have two children, a daughter Mekha, and a son Mikhale.

MEKHA GEORGE did her MBA and is working at GT, Bangalore now (2020). She is married to Dr. GEORGE TALIAT(തളിയത്ത്) from Cochin. He is working at Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore.

2. JAYA is married to KUNCHERIA THOMAS (Cheriachen) of the NELLIPUZHA (നെല്ലിപ്പുഴ) family from Cerpunkal (ചേർപ്പുങ്കൽ), Kottayam. He is a Planter. They have two children ROSE and THOMAS.

ROSE KUNCHERIA is an engineer and is married to Joseph Jose of Choorapuzha (ചൂരാപ്പുഴ) family from Ernakulam (എറണാകുളം). They are both in Sharjah now (2020). They are blessed with a son named Evan.

THOMAS KUNCHERIA after completing his Engineering degree, did his MBA and is now (2020) working at Virtusa.

3. The youngest, THOMAS XAVIER after doing his Engineering, did his MBA. He is now (2020) working at EY Cochin. He is married to PRIYA daughter of Dr. Paul KAVALAKAT (കവളക്കാട്ട്) from Trichur. They have two children, XAVIER and PAUL.

The second son N.G. JOHN(Kuttappan) (കുട്ടപ്പൻ) married ROSSAMMA (റോസമ്മ) the daughter of KURU-VINA-KUNNEL MATHACHAN (കുരുവിനാക്കുന്നേൽ മാത്തച്ചൻ) and have settled in Kottayam. He used to manage of the Geo Pictures Company before it went bankrupt and was wound up. Geo Pictures golden age was during the seventies and eighties. During that time they produced some of the biggest grossing films in the malayalam film industry. Ee Naadu, Kadalaninakkare etc, were some of the iconic movies produced by this company. Kuttappan is now eighty four years old(2020) and leads a retired life with his wife Rossamma who is seventy five years old now(2020), in Ernakulam. They are blessed with three children GEORGE JOHN(AJI), DEEPA, and MATHEW JOHN.

GEORGE JOHN(Aji) is a business executive. He is married to SHIRLY (ഷേർളി) daughter of Paul THEKKINETH (തെക്കിനേത്ത്), of Trichur. They have one child, MARIA ROSE GEORGE, who is now(2020) studying in Stella Mary's College, Chennai.

DEEPA is married to GEORGE THOMAS (Joel) son of Thomas VADAKEDOM (വടക്കേടം). He is a business executive (2020). Deepa runs her own business. They have two children, RAOUL THOMAS GEORGE and RENAN JOHN GEORGE

1. RAOUL THOMAS GEORGE is now(2020) working in London. He was recently married to OLI SEN, daughter of Biswadip and Katsuri.

2. RENAN JOHN GEORGE is now(2020) working in Mumbai.

The third son MATHEW GEORGE (Mathachan) (മാത്തച്ചൻ) B.Sc, B.E,M.B.A(USA). He married VALSA (വഝ), BSc Nutrition. She is the daughter of KM Devasia Anathanam (ആനത്താനം) and Mariamma , (Kadamapuzha) (കടമപ്പുഴ) from Kanjirapally (കാഞിരപ്പള്ളി) in 1966. Mathachen went to America in 1968 and worked for the Department of Transportation in the state of Maine while he earned his MBA. He and family was very active in the local Catholic Church and the Syro malabar (സീറോ മലബാർ) Church. He started his own business and later moved to Houston, Texas. Before the Syro Malabar Dioceses in Chicago was instituted in 2001 his home housed all the retreat teams from India such as Potta (പോട്ട), Kulathuvayal (കളത്തുവയൽ), Shalom etc, that came to the different cities and to Houston. He also started an evangalisation web site named “Catholic Action Worldwide” and worked with different Catholic organizations in Houston.

MATHACHAN is the founder with Monsignor C J Varkey, of Kulathuvayal of the congregation of the “Missionary Sisters of Mary Immaculate” ( MSMI) . His home became their first home for the original four sisters who he sponsored to migrate to America and later remodeled a two story home in Houston which became their first convent in the USA. These sisters working as nurses , social workers and counselors conduct retreats for the Syromalabar community and is a part and parcel of the two churches in Houson such as St Thomas Forane Church and St Mary’s Church. They have grown to ten sisters in their congregation with three convents in Texas. Mathachen is also one of the founding directors of Shalom America which has now grown worldwide.

VALSA went to USA in 1970. She worked for USA government hospital for veterans , taught nutrition students for 26 years and retired. Both Mathachen and Valsa enjoy retirement visiting India yearly. They live in Houston, Texas now (2020)

Their son JOE GEORGE (Joe) BSc(Engineering), MSc(Engineering). He received both his degrees from MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Boston. He was born in 1967. He works for Texas Instruments in Boston. He came to America in 1971 and lives there till now (2020). He married SUNILA(Suni) B.A. J.D, daughter of Rev. Dr. V.K. and Saramma Thomas, Valiaparambil (വലിയപറംബിൽ) USA in 1999. She is Chair and Commissioner Of Massachusetts State Agency.

Joe’s elder son NOAH was born in 2002 and is now in 12 th grade in 2020 awaiting college next year. He is a passionate athlete and plays football, basket ball and ice hockey. He was captain of school foot ball team.

Joe’s 2nd son MICHAEL(Mikey) was born In 2004 and is in 11th grade in 2020 . Mikey is top trumpet player in his school band.

Joe and family live in Lexington, Massachusetts now (2020).

Mathachen’s daughter ELIZABETH REBELLO (Simi) BS Pharmacy, MD(Anesthesiology), Professor,MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Simi married SAVIO REBELLO, BSc, MBA, MS(Accounting)(USA) son of Peter and Loretta Rebello of Bombay in 1995. Savio is a partner with Price Waterhouse Coopers.

Simi’s elder daughter SOPHIA was born in 2003. She is in 12 th grade now(2020) waiting for college next year . She is a “super champion” of tennis in Texas.

Simi’s 2nd daughter LAUREN was born in 2007 in Houston. She is in 7th grade now(2020) and plays soft ball, basket ball and tennis.

Simi and family live in Houston, Texas now (2020).

LEELAAMMA (ലീലാമ്മ), the older of the two daughters' was married off to M.P. OOMMEN (ഉമ്മൻ) (ACHAN-KUNJU) of MELAMPARAMBIL (മേളാംപറംബിൽ) family from Tiruvalla (തിരുവല്ല). He is an engineer. He retired as Chief Engineer, GCDA(Greater Cochin Development Authority). He expired on 4th January 2017, They have been blessed with five children, namely, SASIL, SUNIL, SIJIL, SUSHA and SIMI.

Dr.Sasil Poonen is an orthodontist. He manages his own dental clinic 'Sasil's Dental Clinic' in Sharjah. He is married to Dr.Geetha of Kodankandath (കോടൻകണ്ടത്ത്) family. They have three children. 1.Dr.Shilpa is doing her P.G now(2020) at Amrita Medical College. 2. Saira is a computer engineer. She is working at Georgiatech, USA now(2020). 3. Joshua is now(2020) doing his class 12.

Sunil Oommen is doing his own business, 'Kohinoor Granites' and has branches in Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram and Tiruvalla. He is marriwd to Rosu of Kuruvinakunnel (കുരുവിനാക്കുന്നേൽ) family. They have three children. 1. Mel is a computer engineer and is working in Banglore now(2020). 2. Ken is doing his MBA now(2020) in Loyola, Chennai and 3. Tess is doing her third year Economics now(2020) in Stella Mary's, Chennai.

Sijil Oommen is a computer engineer and is working in Chicago, USA now(2020). He is married to Suja of Kainady (കൈനടി) family from Calicut (കോഴിക്കോട്). She is an artist. They have two children, 1. Mishael, is doing his computer engineerig now(2020). He is in his final year at the University of Chicago and 2. Gabriel, is doing his class twelve now(2020)

THOMAS GEORGE (Thommachan) (തൊമ്മച്ചൻ) the 4th son, was born on 23rd October 1944.He took his B.E. degree from TKM Engineering College, Kollam. He married THRESIAAMMA(ത്രേസൃാമ്മ) (born on 7th January 1952) of KARI-KKATTU-PARAMBIL (കരിക്കാട്ടുപറംബിൽ) family of Kanjirapally. They have been blessed with three children namely Georgy, Jyothy and Jasmin.

JOSEPH GEORGE (Jose) is the fifth son of N X George. Joseph George (born in1947) did his medical schooling in Benares Hindu University and worked as a general surgeon in Kerala. He is married to ANNIE KOTTAM (ആാനി കൊറ്റം) (born in 1953), the daughter of Baby (Kottam family) and Cecily (Ookkan (ഊക്കന) family). The Kottam family is native to Muvattupuzha(മുവാറ്റുപുഴ). Annie's family settled in Trivandrum. He is currently(2020) retired and spending time in India and USA with their two daughters, SWAATHI (സ്വാതി and SMRUTHI(സ്മൃുതി)

SWAATHI JOSEPH (born in 1977) did architecture schooling at Trivandrum Engineering College, moved to USA to pursue masters education in Pennsylvania State University, and is currently working a city planner for City of Cambridge in Massachusetts. She is married to SUNEETH JOHN ( born in 1974; VILAYIL (വിലയിൽ) family) who is an architect turned real estate developer and they have a son ETHAN JOHN (born in 2007). They currently reside in Newton, Massachusetts.

They currently reside in Westlake, Texas.

N.G. GEORGE(Georgekutty) the 6th son of N.X.GEORGE, became a Chartered Accountant and he married LULU of VARIAM-PARAMBIL (വാര്യംപറംബിൽ) family. He was born on 11th September 1951. Lulu is the daughter of V.V.Antony Variamparambil and Aleykutty (ഏലിക്കുട്ടി) Antony Thaliath (തളിയത്ത്). Georgekutty is blessed with a daughter ELIZABETH MARY GEORGE. Georgekutty passed away on 24th January 2010. He was 59 years old.

ELIZABETH MARY GEORGE(Lisa) is a Company Secretary (ACS). She is married to KIRON DAVID (s/o David Kotturan and Thelma David) of Kotturan(കോട്ടൂരാൻ) Family, Irinjalakuda(ഇരിഞ്ഞാലക്കുട). Kiron is a computer engineer working as an assistant manager at Secova e-services Private Ltd. They have a daughter, GRACE MARY KIRON, who is 3 years old now (2020).

7th and youngest son of N X George:- KURIAN GEORGE ( Kuriachen), BSc,BPham(Boston),Pham.D(Doctor of Pharmacy) (Houston) went to US in 1976 after being sponsored by his brother Mathachen. He had done his BSc in Zoology in CMS College in Kottayam before he left for USA. He married BEENA daughter of James Paul and Elamma (ഏലമ്മ) Kuriecad (കുരീക്കാട്) in 1986. He works at Houston Methodist hospital as senior pharmacist till now (2020). Wife Beena did MBA from IIM Calcutta and did PhD (Management Information System ) from Houston. She Works at University of St. Thomas as Dean of the Business department (2020).

Their son SANJAY GEORGE, MS (Finance) was born in 1988. He works in the area of Finance.

Their elder daughter SUNITHA OSBORN PhD (clinical Psychology ) was born in 1990. She married MICHAEL OSBORNE in 2017 She works as clinical psychologists in Houston now (2020).

Michael works as software engineer. He was born in 1988.

Their youngest daughter SHEELA KURIAN, MBA was born in 1991. She works in Marketing (2020). Kuriachen and family live in Houston till now (2020).

An interesting fact noted by Sheela Kurian is that she is the youngest of this generation (the 12th generation in the recorded history here) and that Pazhayakattu Kuttappan chettan being the eldest of this generation.

Vakkachan was a man of foresight. He had vast acreage of paddy fields, but he left all that to go into business. He was the first from the Ettuparayil family to foray into big business real time. He left his agricultural land to his brothers to cultivate and engaged himself in the cinema field on a full time basis. He engaged himself in the production and distribution of films. He was gifted this way and passionate about nurturing and building up his company. He had a vast network of friends in the business and industrial world. He had an important position in the film distribution field of Malayalam cinema. Now a days nobody is staying at the Ettuparayil homestead. It is still in the possession of Vakkachan(1970).

The Ettuparayil Homestead was sold to Velyil Antony Xavier (Mavely) in the eighties during the troubled times at Geo Pictures. Antony stayed there for a few years and due to heavy debts he had to sell the homestead. First he sold the house and then the property. The house was bought by Muslims from Alappuzha. There is an interesting story I heard. Ettuparayil house was built of rosewood and teak. While dismantling the cellar(nilavara) the muslims came across a smaller secret cellar under it. This is all true as I had seen the dismantled secret cellar. But what I relate next is what I heard from the driver of the boat who took the muslims' to Alappuzha. It seems that the muslims' found something which they packed in two small sacks. The sacks were very heavy. Most locals assume it to be gold coins. In the night they took the sacks in the country boat which was tugged by the motor boat. The country boat was full of the dismantled wood and bronze pieces. It was raining very heavily, but they did not seek shelter from the rains in the motor boat. They it seems were guarding the sacks like a treasure. When they reached Alappuzha the two left with the sacks in an auto, leaving the other dismantled bronze, copper, and wood, in the country boat unguarded. They came back after two hours. It was in the nineties and the story of the gold coins found at Ettupara spread like wild fire locally. An old Mancompu Bhramin said that the story might be true as in those times Kochappan was the richest man in the land. He had left for treatment in Madurai for a stomach ailment which he did not consider serious and hoped to return home soon. So he couldn't have told his children of the secret stash.

The Ettuparayil Tharavad(homestead) is not in existence now(2020). The people who bought the land subdivided it and sold it. Where the homestead stood the present owners have built a new house there and have named it Ettuparayil. But they are not related to us.....( this input by Santhosh Antony in 2020)
