The first semester of the MLPD program I was asked to lead a final project over the due diligence activities associated with a theoretical development project. We worked together as a team to review the documents provided to us and put together a recommendation as to whether we would move forward with the project or not. I began by assigning various activities to each group member and setting a timeline for completion. I took all the information given to me and put together a presentation representing our collaborative ideas. Once we had completed all the assigned tasks, I lead our team in presenting our findings.
I was nervous to undertake this task as I had recently done very poorly as a leader for another group. I took the lessons I had learned about time management and preparedness and used them to make corrections to how I worked with others. Each of these projects taught me valuable lessons about what it means to overcome adversity and successfully work together with a group. I have been a leader and I have also been part of a team, and I have drastically changed the way I approach both of these positions.
